we are considering this for our soon to be 4 yr old for his birthday. I like the active learning while having fun concept, I love the portability and I like the responsibility we can instill with caring for such a "big" toy. Im just not sure which one is the better choice, if there is a better choice between the two and what your experiences with any of these might be.

Thank you!

We got the leapster for our 4 year for her birthday a couple of weeks ago and she loves it. Its got a great game where she traces the letters with the stylus pen that totally keeps her attention. I like that it even shows them the correct place to start the letter and makes them start over if they stray to far from the straight line. We got a numbers game was well that she really enjoys.

I'm pretty impressed.

We had a v-tech game that connects to the tv that I wasn't very impressed with so we didn't really look at the handheld...can't help with the comparison.

Exactly what I was going to write! :cool1:

Our kids are 4 and 6 (soon to be 7) and still love their Leapster.

I think too that the Leapster has a bigger variety of games, if I remember correctly...

We have both, the Vsmile pocket and the LMax, and the Leapster is used much more by our DS4 (almost 5). The games are much more educational IMO, and several of them have videos that he likes to watch, ie: Letter Factory has the little short movie on it, SchoolHouse Rock has some of the original episodes shorts on it, etc.

What is this game called? My nephews will be getting the Leapsters for Christmas and this might be the perfect game for them. DN5 is having difficulty with writing letters and this may help him.

Ds just got a Leapster for his 4th birthday too, and he loves it.

Its Letters on the Loose. We also got Numbers on the Run, a dora adventure and a princesses one that she really likes.

My girls both got Leapsters last year for Christmas and still play with them..pretty much on a daily basis!!!

Thank you all so much. We are going with the leapster L-max. I found a cool web site that rates toys. Its something like edutainment toys dot com.

Again thank you!
