First off, sorry for the fuzzy quality of the pics, they were taken from my phone.

We live just a few minutes from Disney's Vero Beach Resort and for Valentines Day SO made reservations for us to have dinner at Shutters.

We had eaten there once before (on NYE) about 3 years ago.

Our reservation was for 6:10pm, but we arrived around 6pm and were seated immediately. The hostesses at the podium were very friendly and they escorted us to our table.

The dining room is split into two areas. The main room has a view of some of the kitchen happenings. There is a secondary room, more like a glass enclosed patio, which is where we sat.

We were led to a 4 top table against the window (there were only two of us, but I was pleased to get a slightly larger table, the tables for two that we had passed looked crowded with drinks/plates, etc).

Shutters is located on the ground floor of the hotel, and due to the foliage between the ocean and the hotel itself, you aren't able to see much of the ocean from the restaurant. This was the view out the window from our table.

Our waitress arrived, took our drink order, explained the specials and brought us a basket of bread. Sorry no bread pic, but it was a combination of cornbread (very tasty) and a round roll (zero flavor, with the exception of the rock salt on top...yuck) with a plate of four round mickey head pats of butter.

We don't normally do appetizers, entree, and dessert, just because it is too much food, but we decided to do just that this evening.

I started with the special salad of the day. $8.99

It was arugula, with fresh strawberry, sliced almond, in a champagne vinaigrette with toasted goat cheese croutons. The goat cheese made up my mind, I love goat cheese. Normally the fruit and almonds in the salad mixed with a vinaigrette dressing (not my favorite) would have been a turn off, but this was amazingly yummy. The waitress also brought each of us two small additional plates/forks so that we could sample each other's starter, which I thought was a nice touch.

SO started off with a four cheese flatbread. (sorry no pic) It was yummy, if somewhat bland and very very oily/greasy. $11.99

Then came the main entrees. I am sorry I didn't take a picture of the menu, as it differs slightly from what is currently up on the all ears menu site.

It was presented better, but I had already moved things around on the plate before remembering the pic.

I had a flat iron steak with whipped potatoes (on the menu it came with whipped sweet potatoes, but changed it to regular) and asparagus in a sweet/tangy BBQ like sauce. To be honest I just wasn't a fan of the steak. One side was charred black and crunchy, the other side, slightly too red for my taste. $18.99

SO had a half chicken on top of whipped potatoes, hard to see in the picture, but there are pearl onions and spinach layered in there as well. $15.99

Then came dessert, and I have to say I was slightly disappointed. The waitress recited the options for dessert, which included raspberry sorbet, key lime tart, carrot cake, and double dipped chocolate cheesecake dipped in dark chocolate with a white chocolate drizzle (this is exactly how she said it, no pause between chocolate and cheesecake, and I heard her tell another nearby table the same thing).

Excited, as I like chocolate cheese cake (not so much regular cheese cake) I immediately ordered that, SO even said, I know what you are getting when she was reciting them.

This is what I received, It was totally encased in the chocolate shell, so I snipped a bit off with the fork before taking the pic.

It clearly is regular cheesecake covered in chocolate, not terrible by any means, but not what I was expecting. It also had 4 raspberries on the plate (gave them to SO, as I don't like them) and a raspberry sauce. $5.99

SO had the carrot cake, which was huge. $5.99

In that picture you can also see part of the drink that I had, some sort of very berry punch (alcoholic) which was just ok. $9.50

We also had an iced tea and a coke, both $2.69

In all the meal was very nice. The restaurant was not crowded at all, the staff was friendly, and our waitress very attentive. The timing between the courses was very nice (I hate feeling rushed when you are still eating the starter and they bring the main).

Total with tax (before tip) came to $88.09.
