UY pts tied to a specific reservation + 1 more Q

As the title indicates, if I have multiple reservations with a mix of current UY and borrowed UY points, are the points being used pooled together or are they assigned to a specific reservation? For example, say I made one reservation using borrowed points and one reservation using current. Then I cancel the reservation that required borrowed points. Will I be “credited” only those borrowed points or will the borrowed points “move” to the remaining reservation and I am credited points from current UY?

My other question is can MS split one long reservation into two separate ones? Or would that require cancelling and rebooking?

Thanks so much!

Points stay with the reservation that hey were used to make. So, let’s say that you made Reservation A with borrowed points and Reservation B with current UY points. If f you cancel A, you get the borrowed points back.

MS won’t split a reservation and guarantee that you won’t lose part of it. You can have your current reservation modified to shorten it by dropping days and then you can hope to book the other days immediately afterwards. Hopefully, they would not get snapped up by the waitlist or someone looking to book those same nights. No guarantees. But you don’t need MS to do this. Just do it online.

Thanks! If I call MS, is it possible to reallocate points between reservations?

You can ask. I’ve never been denied. But it’s my understanding that they do not have to. It’s more of a courtesy.

Generally you can do it online too by modifying the reservation but choosing to rebook the exact same dates. You'll still be given the option of what contracts to use. It will follow using borrowed then banked then current points when it "rebooks" the reservation for you. There is a glitch in that what it shows you before finalizing may not look like it will change it but it still does follow the point usage rules when it finalizes and you'll see it confirmed.

If you cancel a reservation yes. My understanding is that you can’t do it without cancelling a reservation though. So if you meant to swap points from reservation B to reservation A without cancelling either I don’t think you can. Basically the points can’t be allocated to two reservations at the same time and you can’t hold a reservation without having the points to cover it.

Have you been able to do this without canceling one of the reservations first?

If you made the reservation with the home resort advantage, the points used for that reservation would need to be for that resort. If you borrowed points from a different resort to make the second reservation (and it was made at seven months out or less) and the first reservation was made at 11 months out with home resort points, you couldn't swap out the borrowed points unless there was still availability. They would need to cancel your reservation and book it as new.

That is correct.

Since OP was referencing cancelling that was what my own response was geared towards.

I was more responding to her second post where she asked if they could reallocate between reservations. I wasn’t sure if she was clarifying calling vs online or if she was asking if she could reallocate without canceling.

Thanks to everyone who responded!

I simplified my current situation in the OP just to get a clear answer to my questions. After doing the math about 5000 different times, I realized that in my situation, even if I could swap around current/borrowed points, it wouldn’t benefit me after all. The bottom line is that given the complexity of trying to make sure we had the dates/accommodations we wanted, but also wanting to do a split stay, there was no realistic way for me to avoid borrowing more than I needed (to secure a waitlist) and ending up with “leftover” current UY points (if the waitlist comes through). I could have rolled the dice on being able to secure back-to-back BCV studio reservations vs. one continuous stay (thus the Q about breaking a reservation into two stays). But now I remember that I didn’t want to take that risk.

I created for myself quite the challenging reservation scenario given that I’m relatively new at this. But this community has “held my hand” and counseled me through it! :flower:

I'm a tiny bit lost on exactly what you are doing but it sounds like you might be in a situation where you end up having borrowed extra points if a waitlist fills. If the waitlist fills and it's against a reservation that uses both banked and current points then the current points will be returned and you can bank them as long as it fills 31 days or more in advance and you are still in your banking window. If the reservation is done with all borrowed point but your other reservation has current points then you could reallocate the borrowed points to it and bank as long as it's 31 days or more in advance of arrival and you are in your banking window.

I’m not surprised you’re lost! Here is the *really* long explanation. My current reservations are:

• BCV Studio - 8 nights (the entire trip for my guests) - all 2019 points
• BCV 2BR “A” - 5 nights, first part of the week - all 2019 points
• BCV 2BR “B” - 4 nights, 2nd half of the trip - mix of 2019 and 2020 points.

The problem is that when I made the above reservations I think I was so worried about getting both Studio and 2BR, that I initially booked (as soon as I could) both as length of stay reservations. Then, I went back and secured two separate 2BR reservations WHILE I held on to the length of stay reservation. I wasn’t going to do that with the Studio because I was afraid to risk losing part of it; and I think they were already all booked (of course) by the time I could have made reservations for the second half anyway. Reserving rooms this way, I ended up having to borrow from 2020. And when I canceled the long 2BR reservation, 2019 points went back into my account.

I have waitlisted AKV GV for 2nd half of trip and have designated BCV “B” reservation to be replaced. If it gets filled, I will modify the Studio reservation. In doing that, I will get back 62 2019 points - which is better than having surplus borrowed points - but I would have rather tried to figure out a way to use all my current UY points first, thus borrowing less 2020 points.

And if the waitlist doesn’t come through, then I’m left with 120 unused points for 2019 and less points in 2020. But, I *can* bank them. The result of all this is just less flexibility for next year, likely having points I *have* to use and having less points to spread over the following two years.

So yesterday I started thinking about all of this and trying to figure out if I could move around points between reservations. And thinking I had made a big rookie mistake. But ultimately I realized it doesn’t really matter - no switching around of current and borrowed points will make a difference in the end. At first I was frustrated with myself for borrowing so early in the process. But then I remembered all the maneuvers I made and why I made them. I probably was a little overly cautious where the 2BR was concerned. However, in the end, the points will get used, I have no doubt of that. And I need to chill.

And if you read all of this, you are a saint! :flower1:

The only think I noted if I understood the process you went thru correctly is that with the length of stay 2BR that you booked 2 entirely new reservations before cancelling it. What you could have done is booked Part B which is 4 nights so probably less points as the new reservation which looks like could have been done with only 2019 points and then shortend the 2BR length of stay back to be the 5 nights for Part A and that might have been using only 2019 points? Or at least had fewer borrowed 2020 points?

In the end, yes, you have points to bank if you don't end up using them for the GV but they are not lost.

@KAT4DISNEY - Sainthood confirmed! I think you are right and that is what I should have done. Live and learn! Thanks for sticking with me! :thanks:
