When buying your first contract via resale, what's the best way to approach UY?

Should I just look out for the contract (points, cost, etc) and work with whatever UY the contract is? Or does UY matter enough that I should factor that into my search?

My kids are young (4 and 1) so who knows what the future will hold for when we take vacations. But now if we had our pick of when, we'd go whenever the crowds are lower (fall/winter).

We like to vacation in May, so we have an April use year. That way, we have months and months to reschedule if we need to.

Since we are in Michigan now, we are often vacationing in January/Feb. That works less well, because should we have to cancel, we are past our banking deadline.

When your children hit school, you'll be looking at going more in the summertime. An April use year would work for the summer and fall well.

To take advantage of the free UY banking insurance, pick a UY that is at the beginning of your most often used 8 month vacation dates.

We will only vacation during the cooler months at WDW so we have an October UY which is best for vacations between October and May.

If we need to cancel a vacation, we can bank and save our points for the next year.

We had to use our banking advantage twice, once due to a death in the family and once due to a forced job relocation.

We like to go in Oct/Nov/Dec when the temps are cooler, but I am looking for Aug UY as we may eventually move towards a last week of Aug or Sept travel schedule when the kids are in school. As stated UY should be the beginning of the 8 months of when you most likely would go to Disney, so that you can bank if your plans change. I never plan on going in May/June/July so Aug seems to make the most sense.
