This morning in Baltimore, the news is telling us our energy provider, Baltimore Gas and Electric (owned by Constellation) will be lifted from the price caps currently in place by the Public Service commission, and we can expect our electric bills to go up by on average 72%. Of course this is after we got the warning about our natural gas prices this winter.... all because of the war, and Hurricane Katrina... the BGE spokes person said... we are just catching up with the rest of the country and we have been getting a bargain, for the last several years.... so I am asking for your post... how big is your home sq ft wise, and what is your average electricity bill....I am just curious, at how much of a bargain I have been getting....

Last month--

3500 square feet. Electric bill was $130 and gas bill was $297.00.

We're on an averaging plan with our provider--it's been running about $175/mo for a 2200 sq ft single story. It has gone up in recent months because we got a letter with very similar excuses a few months back. I can't even imagine what it'd be like if we didn't have gas service too (which is somewhat rare out here). Our gas service (separate provider) averages out to $60/mo.

I don't think you can really determine the price of electricity by the size of your house. It is more how many things do you have plugged in running all the time, how many lights are left on at any given time, what big electric appliances and such do you have.

I live in Il, my house is about 1500sq my electric bill runs around $100. Again, that depends on how often my kids leave lights on, how often I run my washer and dryer, if I have my electric heaters plugged in. Hope that helps. Also, at christmas time with all the christmas lights on it ran about $30-$50 more.

We live in a 2000 sq. ft. new construction home in South Eastern PA. We have gas heat and a gas hot water heater so they use minimal electric. It is just 2 of us right now, so we don't have tons of lights on and do lots of laundry or things like that. There is always at least one TV on though :teeth: In the winter our bill is $40-$55 dollars a month. It is usually double that in the summer with the air conditioning, but it has never been more than $100 a month.

We're on a budget plan and we pay $191 a month for electric. We have a small gas bill because we heat with oil.

Im in Southern, NH. My house is about 2100sq ft, 2 adults 2 kids, gas heat, on a budget plan for both gas and electric so the average is $223 for electric (we have a/c for summer) and $105 for gas(propane).

The best part is that they will only raise your rate by

21 % to start and charge you 5% interest on the remaining 51% unless you OPT -OUT .

Now I'm sure they will make this very easy for us to do.

Ok, to be a bit more specific.... here is what we are paying to BGE in Balto Metro area.... perhaps this will give us all a more apples to apples...Looking my my most recent bill.

Electricity .04053 per kWh
Plus Electricity Delivery Charge of .02634 per kWh

now for Gas

Gas Commodity 1.2622 for first 57 therms, then 1.4505 for remaining
Gas Delivery Charge .28742

Ok, so what are you paying per kWh for electricy, and per therm for Gas....that will really show me how great of a deal I am getting in Baltimore...

Hi...

I'm not sure cost per unit.. but elec. and gas this past month was $300 for 3700 sq ft house...

Last year we lived in CA. I was prepared for High electric and gas bills here in the midwest. Water/sewer costs have thrown me completely off guard.
Today we rec'd our water bill. It states that we will be having another 35% increase next month. 35% DANG!!! TPTB say it is because of EPA costs....
Water in Illinois costs more than in California.... geez.....:(

This is from last months electric bill:
Basic Generation Service
646 KWH x 0.069412 = 44.84
Delivery Service Charges
646 KWH x 0.046393 = 29.97

This months gas bill:
35 therms x .3644 = 12.75
76 therms x .2650 = 20.14
Basic gas 111 x 1.1690 = 129.76
CAC ( :confused3 don't know what that stands for) 111 x .047477 = 5.27
Service charge = 7.48
Total 175.40

Our house is 1500 sq ft. We keep the downstairs set at 64 and upstairs at 62.

2300SF
Gas = 400.00 and we keep it set at 63
Electric = 60.00 (we are never home)

We just got our bill from them and it was $30 or $40 more than normal, we have the budget billing and have a credit. Not sure why the jump this early, need to call them and find out why. Have you had this happen?

Wow, I just moved to IL from MI and thought I was getting a bargan on water. My bill is less than half what I paid in MI and I use my water here more. Now I must also add that my water tastes like sludge , and I had the best tasting water in MI, so who knows :confused3

Hey girl - remember us, Lindsey (Lindsey's my DD) and Alice we were on the May 2004 - Disney Magic Eastern Cruise with you guys. I was going to post and say I wanted to join your Bad Parent group LOL, and then I noticed that you live in Utah and of course there are only 8 other people living there since I moved out so it had to be you. Looks like you guys have been hitting Vegas pretty hard :thumbsup2 how do you afford all those bras? ;)

Sorry for the interruption, back to the OP. We are getting the same spin from our electric provider, that's what happens when you have a freeze on cost, big time make up. My electric is about $60 in the winter and double that in the summer (I don't use much AC). My highest gas bill was December $550 very cold here then and the highest price per therm ever. We're down to about .64 per therm now thankfully. My house is 2800 sq. feet.
