Using your keycard as a "check card?"

Just needed some info from those who have used their DLR hotel key card to charge purchases to their room. I asked a cast member where you can use it and they just say "everywhere" without any details. I'm assuming you can't use it at any of the carts that require cash? Also, what about Downtown Disney? Has anyone used it there and if so, which places specifically? Thanks so much in advance!!!

Carts that require cash? This is mostly limited to balloon vendors. Food vendors will all be fine.

In DTD is a good questions though since the restaurants are not too well connected to disney.

So do the churro/turkey leg/digitini carts all accept cards? I thought they only took cash...

You can use it at the Disney owned stores/kiosks/etc that take credit cards. There are very few vendors that can't take cards anymore, but balloons are an exception I can think of off the top of my head... You can always sneak a peek to see if they have a proper register before getting in line.

But you can really ask anywhere, just to see. :)

I used my hotel room card at World of Disney this past weekend. I know that isn't much help, but it did work there.

i used our card to purchase food at several different food carts without any hassle. Yes World of Disney in DTD takes it but i did try and use it at a couple of restaurants but they do not accept it.
I can't remember the name now, but the fast take out mexian thats in the same building as Tortilla Joes will give you a 10% discount if you show your hotel card but won't accept it for payment.

carts without a register... balloons, Glow carts, and a few outdoor vending carts will only take cash...

turkey, churros, popcorn all take cards now...

Basically if the cart is not stationary and plugged in, it cannot take credit cards and will take cash only. Otherwise all locations within the parks will accept the card. As far as I know, only Marceline's and World of Disney in Downtown Disney will accept your resort card.

One word of warning--if you make charges (i.e., leave a credit card #) on your room key it is very easy for someone to make purchases if you lose your card. I lost mine last year at the Disney Food and Wine Festival in WDW (had the Dining Plan and was buying snacks with it--accidentally left it at a booth). I called my resort almost immediately but later that night someone charged over $500 to my room key in merchandise. Although Disney didn't charge me (good thing I I had called right away) it was unfomfortable for a while (and I'm not sure they believed me). When you buy merchandise using your room key apparently they don't ask for i.d.

since then, I choose not to allow charges to the room just in case.

I agree it would be a bummer and a small hassle but Disney has little choice other than to forgive the charges you ddin't make.

If they forced you to pay it is really simple to make a dispute with you CC company and have the charges credited back to you.
