Using WDW tickets at DL

We are going to stop at DLR in August for a Friday and Saturday before we leave on a cruise. I used DVC points to book a room at GCH. I am going to use some non-expiring WDW hopper tickets to exchange for a one day hopper on Saturday. I know that I have to do this the day in which I intend to use them.

My question, for those that have done this before, is what is the procedure? From what I've read you show up at the turnstiles and let them know you have WDW ticket, they then take them somewhere, take the day off of them, and return with the appropriate one day ticket, correct? I want to take advantage of MM, can I get one of the CM's at the turnstyles to do this prior to the start of MM or do I have to wait until they open the park for MM? Do they allows us entry past the turnstyles or do we stand around trying not to block traffic while they handle the transaction?

I believe you can do this once the ticket booths open. The booths are just past security and on the way to the turnstiles. They don't handle anything at DL directly at the turnstiles.

There is also a Guest Services Booth to the left of the main gate that handles such things. You can take them there, also.

This is awesome news that you can do this!!!! I needed a 3 day ticket for September for DL and just thought I would have to buy it, but I have 6 days left on a no-expiration pass to WDW that I could use. AWESOME!!!

TnMaryJo- Just FYI, others have reported that you have to do the conversion each day as they only convert one day at a time from WDW to DL media.

Just thinking out loud & bumping this:

Would they be able to do this the night before (at the ticket booth)?

Would they be able to handle this at the GCH (by a CM)?

& if the answer to both of these questions is NO......then I recommend (assuming you have two adults).....that your party split up after entering thru Security at 6:30am (which means you should arrive at Security at 6:20am;))

One adult & kids gets in line at the one of the MM turnstiles.....while the other one stops at the ticket booth (on the way) & handles the ticket transaction.....& joins the rest of the family (who are first or second in line. :thumbsup2).

Have a great time planning a visit to Walt's Park. :hippie:

:)

I completely agree with your logic, I think the same way. I was hoping that someone who has done this recently could cast a little light on the process. I seem to recall reading a while ago that this was not done at the ticket booth but at the actual turnstyle. If I remember I thought it said to tell the CM at the turnstyle that you had WDW tickets you wanted to use and that they would handle it at the gate. Everything I've read says that you cannot do this the day before and don't bother asking most CM's as they know nothing about it.

Just hoping someone who had done it recently was out there with the definitive procedure.

Well, when I did this it was years ago but yes, we went to the turnstiles and they changed them there. I think your best bet is to get there early and ask the CM working the gate, that way if you have to go somewhere else they can tell you right then. Good luck!! I hope it goes smoothly for you!

If your WDW tix have the PH option, then will your 1-day DL tix you exchange for also have the PH option?

If it IS changed AT the turnstiles then this would be another good reason to be first or second in line.

That way you could hand the CM (who often gets there 10 min. prior to opening) the tickets & they could be changed BEFORE the gates open. The last 3 times I've been at MM, the CM scans the first couple of families in line prior to the "countdown".

Hopefully someone who has done WDW "ticket change" prior to MM can offer an opinion on who does what...when.

All right, so, since this question seems to be popping up every now and then, I picked up the phone and called DL and asked:

Yes, it can be done. No, you cannot do the inverse at WDW because "WDW's tickets have a highter dollar value than ours here," as the CM stated.

The Procedure (as she explained it):
Take the "already paid for WDW passes" (she stressed that a few times) to the turnstile (not Guest Relations, the ticket booth, or a hotel). They will call out a supervisor "as they have access to the WDW ticketing system." The supervisor will take the tickets to their computer (I'm guessing you just step aside and wait and this moment). The supervisor will remove a day from the WDW pass and give a one day ticket. It will be good for both parks. (I asked, "So, it's a PHer? What she exactly explained was that what they give you is not really a ticket. It is just a special pass good for that day only that can get you into both parks.)

It must be done on the day the ticket is planned to be used. It cannot be done in advance or more than one day at a time. (I asked very specifically on both of these points.

No.

I asked this specifically. She said they cannot do it until the Park opens.

I asked her if anything would need to / should be done differently on a ,MM. She sad it would be the exact same procedure, when the turnstiles open, on the day of wanting to go to the Parks.

HTH everyone now and in the future,
Dreams

Thanks, seems pretty staightforward. I guess we'll just miss a few minutes of MM. Thankfully were coming from Chicago so if we get up at our normal time it'll be 4:30-5:00AM there. We should have no problem getting there early.

Also, just to add, not all Walt Disney World Resort tickets are eligible for this exchange.

Most Magic Your Way Tickets may be exchanged for Disneyland Resort Theme Park Admission Tickets. However, certain tickets issued before the Walt Disney World Resort instituted the Magic Your Way Ticket Programme (2 January 2005) may not be accepted.

Also, please remember that, unless the No Expiration option is purchased or added to the ticket, all Magic Your Way Tickets expire 14 Days from first use.

To determine whether your current Walt Disney World Resort Theme Park Admission Ticket can be exchanged, simply bring it to any Disneyland Resort Main Entrance Turnstyle.

Please report back on your experience Sox Fan.

& if you find yourself one of the first couple of families at the turnstiles, (prior to MM opening)....advise the CM standing there of your WDW tickets.

Since they're scanning tickets ahead of time anyway....maybe they can get the transfer handled during this 10 min. period as well. :thumbsup2

I did this a couple years ago at the turnstile. No problem it took a few minutes.

At the time, I used a no-expiration single-park WDW ticket. And we did get a ticket good for BOTH DL parks. I thought perhaps they had made a mistake. But the info posted above suggests that IS the procedure: ANY WDW ticket gets you into BOTH DL parks.

The reason I'm curious is that I'm about to do it again. I want to get into both DL parks. I now have both types of no-expiration WDW tickets: 1 park tickets and park hopper tickets. Obviously, I'd rather "get rid of" the 1 park tickets IF I will again get a 2 park DL ticket.

Can anyone confirm that this is in fact the standard policy? Thanks!!
