Using WDW tickets at Disneyland

DSNY4ever, if you are spending the 7 days at WDW in one trip, you don't need the non-expiring option, so you should consider the price of a 7 day expiring ticket which is $296.07 instead of the $413.22. Then it really isn't a savings to use a 10 day non expiring ticket.

NO!!! Yeah, you're right it's not a deal for use in the way that I was thinking about it, because we usually never purchase the "non-expire" option. Oh well, I have no trips planned anyway and I would have figured that out eventually.

Oh I miss the days of the old tickets...when park hopper and non-expiration were included . Blech to the Magic your way tickets! ...they have never felt magical to me!

On a sidenote, I used one of the old WDW Multi-day Passports (the rubber stamp kind Pete was talking about) this past February at the Disneyland turnstiles. Piece of cake. They actually gave me a DL Park Hopper pass for the day.

Musings about this:

• I first used this 5-day Passport at EPCOT Center 1988, and finished it in Disneyland Feb 2009.
• Back then, all tickets were "no expiration"
• I paid $150 for the 5-day ticket - you do the math
• All these tickets were automatically Park Hopper

Some castmember magic: When I went to the turnstiles on Day #2, the cast member redeemed my last day of the Passport for a Park Hopper, One-day pass. She saw my kids had non-Park Hoppers, and she exchanged those for Park Hoppers as well without my asking. She said, "Today is most likely going to be a light day. Enjoy yourselves." That gave me a big smile.

My daughter said, "What's happening, Daddy?"

"Sweetie, this is what's called Castmember Magic."

It's only worth it if you need at 10 day non expiring hopper at WDW. If you go for a few days and don't plan to go back for a while then get the non expiring tickets, they will be cheaper.

Then consider how long will you be at Disneyland. There are always deals for their multi day tickets and they are cheaper than WDW.

If you are like me and live on the east coast and go to WDW a lot thus do buy the 10 day non expiring hopper it makes sense to use them at DL if we go for 1 day. We save a bit and maybe would not have gone to DL if we had to buy full price 1 day tickets for the family. Disney probably considers that too. If you go to WDW all the time why spend a fourtune at DL for 1 day. But if you can use your WDW multi day ticket it is very easy. Disney makes it easy for a reason.

Unless you are DVC as the AP discount plus the DL ticket is a much better bargain if you go a lot to Disney.

I have a WDW AP and had to get park passes to get free dining. Now I have several one day non hopper tickets....can those be used in DL?

I just looked really quick at the prices on allearsnet.com:

A 7 day WDW parkhopper with no expiration is $413.22. A 3 day DLR parkhopper bought online is $169.00. The total for this is $582.22.

A 10 day WDW parkhopper with no expiration is $518.66. That's a $63.56 savings!!!

You might even be able to save a bit more by buying the WDW parkhopper through one of the online official ticket sellers!

You'd actually be looking at a 7 day EXPIRING first (buying only what you need for Walt Disney World and skipping the non-expiration), then a 10 day non-expiring.

7 day PH, expiring: $296.07
3 day Disneyland Park Hopper: $179
Total: $475.07

10 day PH, NON-expiring: $518.66

You're going to pay about $40 more buying only Walt Disney World admission.

You may break even if you buy from a discount broker - but for the time it's going to take for them to convert your admission every morning? I'd just buy them separately.

Wow, this might be a great solution for us as we will only have 2 full days at DL & DCA in Dec 2009.

Because DLR 2 day PH are quite expensive and I have no idea when/if we will be there again, it would make sense to buy the 10 WDW non-exp PH, and use 2 days at DLR. PH at WDW are exchanged for PH for DLR, right? That is, we could go to DL and DCA on the same day? Does this sound like a good plan?

I was thinking of getting 10 day non-expiry WDW tix next time anyways as the additional days really brings down the average cost per day. We won't get to WDW until Dec 2010, probably be there for 4 days, then keep the remainder of the tix for another trip in 2011 (yet unscheduled).

In case anyone happens to know about tickets ...one more question, pls. If I buy the 10 day WDW PH non-expiry ticket with the Water Park Fun n More option, are the 10 WPFnM passes non-expiry too or do they expire 14 days after the last park ticket is used?

Any info/thoughts much appreciated!

With your WDW PH ticket, you will be able to park hop at Disneyland and DCA.

If you buy the non-expiration option at WDW, the WPFnM options do not expire either.

If I buy 10-day WDW Hoppers, will I be able to use my unused day at DL? I don't plan on buying the non-expiring Hoppers, but the tickets won't be expired yet, since they'll have been activated only 10 days previous. Hoping this crazy plan of mine will work!!

Yes. The WDW tickets to be used at DLR must be currently valid. This means that either they must have the No Expire option or be within 14 days of first use. (note that if day of first use is a Sunday, the last day of validity is the second Saturday following.)

Tickets at DL are treated as "straight line" as opposed to WDW tickets which are "front-loaded" for pricing. If you have a valid DL ticket, unused or partially used, you can take it to a Guest Relations Office. They can look it up to see how many days you have used of the ticket. They will then cancel your ticket and apply the unused portion to the purchase of a new MYW (or AP) ticket.

The following is an example with completely made up numbers, as I am not aware of the actual selling price. If you had a five day DL ticket that had cost $200 that is $40 per day. If you had used two days the remaining ticket value would be $120. You would have to purchase, at the very least, a two day base ticket (or a one day adult hopper) to use the $120 and your DL ticket would be canceled.

If you want to use a WDW ticket at DL they will give you a one day for one day exchange, but you can only do one ticket per day per MYW multi-day ticket and the ticket they give you will be good that day only. If your MYW ticket is a hopper you will receive a hopper, otherwise you will receive a ticket valid for one park.
