Using WDW park hopper at Disneyland?

I just received my "Unofficial Guide" and have been reading it. I read that I can use my unexpired WDW MYW tickets at Disneyland. Yesterday I was at the Disney Store here and the manager told me she had never heard this. Suggested I read the Birmbaums (spelling?) book. She also said the Disneyland tickets are cheaper than WDW tickets. Has anyone tried using WDW tickets at Disneyland? We have about four days left on our WDW tickets and will be going back to Orlando in 2007 or 2008. Would we be better off just buying tickets for Disneyland? I'm thinking we will only do one day of Disneyland while in California. We are staying with relatives in Monrovia so I am not sure how long the drive will be to the parks. Thanks for the help!

It can be done. You cannot use Disneyland tickets at WDW but you can use the more expensive, WDW tickets at DL. I personally would would not do it because you paid dearly to get that non expiration option on your WDW tickets and if you only have four days left on them and plan on going to WDW again then you might not have enough days left for WDW and a one or two day ticket at WDW is way more expensive than one at Disneyland. I also understand that sometimes when you are going on a trip you need to save money in the here and now and worry about a trip a year or more down the road when that time arrives! So yes, you can do it and while its not the best option dollar for dollar at least you know it can be done!

Birnbaums is a good book for Disneyland or WDW in that it has descriptions on ever ride, restaurant and show at Disneyland and lots of colorful photographs. Its not as detailed as say the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland but I like it in that its more of an overview and a quick, easy read. You can buy it at any bookstore (the Disney Store frequently has them too, right where they have the park hopper tickets displayed) and its about $15. You can also check it out at your library but frequently the ones they have are outdated. Good luck and enjoy your time in Disneyland!

And in case you're wondering, you cannot exchange your WDW annual passes for entry into Disneyland or vice versa. But, yes, if you have a multiple day ticket from WDW, Disneyland will take it.

I didn't know you could do that, but as OP said, if you're planning on going back to WDW save those and but tix for DLR.

Hello all! I just remembered that I think I have a day left on two of my parents' WDW tix as well, is there a way to confirm this by calling a number or something?

And if it's a WDW park hopper, how does the equate to Disneyland? Has anyone had any real experience with using this? I'm so confused on how this works.

Isnt a one day hopper at Disneyland something like $70 or $80? Then it would be cheaper to use those WDW tickets if you can. Disneyland is substantially cheaper with two or more days.

Yes a one day at Disneyland I think is around $68. But the OP paid for the ticket days on her WDW pass plus the high cost of making those tickets non expiring which drives up the daily cost even more. Its almost like paying one and half times the price to add that non exp. option. Still cheaper for multiple trips but a big up front price when you buy them.

SDRockGirl: A WDW park hopper will just be exchanged for a Disneyland park hopper. Even though they are more expensive, its just traded in, no credit is given for the difference. If you have an old WDW park hopper it should work, although if it has your parent's name on it, it will have to be them that uses it. Nowadays, WDW park hoppers, which are now called Magic Your Way Tickets, expire unless you pay for the non expiration option (which is very expensive). It sounds like however you have an old WDW park hopper, and those are good forever. Don't know about a number you can call. They will scan the ticket at the ticket booth and if there's any days left they will show up. But again, if your parents names are on those tickets, you will have a problem as they will ask for ID to verify you are the name on the ticket. Tickets for any Disney park are not transferrable to other people.

And again as others have stated, AP's only work at the park for which you bought them and to the best of my knowledge, Disneyland tickets will not work at WDW as they are cheaper. Disneyland park hoppers also expire pretty quickly and always have.

On our recent trip, we used old WDW park-hoppers for my Dh on Saturday which was a blockout day on his Deluxe AP. These were the old WDW park-hoppers that were all non-expiring (probably purchased between 2001 & 2004). We just took the pass to the regular gate at DL, and the CM pushed a button or something that called someone else over who took the pass, scanned it and deducted a day, and then brought it back and let the gate CM know that the pass was OK. The gate CM then gave us a special DL pass to use as a park hopper for that day only. This was all really amazingly quick. We just sort of waited off to the side while the gate CM processed other guests. I knew we had 3 park days left on the pass, and after our 2nd Saturday use, the CM who brought the pass back told us that there was one day left on the pass, which matched what we expected. I thought it was nice of them to tell us that.

We could have bought a blockout day pass at DL for $30, and I figure the current price of a WDW pass at about $30 per day since a 7 day basic expiring pass is a little over $200. I think we had about 10 days left on various WDW passes, and when we go now, we're always on AP's and it's cheaper for any guests going with us to just buy new passes, so I figure we'll just use these leftover WDW passes at DL here and there.

Hope that helps! :sunny:

Here's some ticket info from mousesavers.com

Unlike tickets and passes at Walt Disney World, all multi-day passes at Disneyland expire 13 days after the first day you start using them. (Unless you use them up first. Naturally a 3-Day Park Hopper is "expired" once you've used all three days, even if 13 days haven't passed yet!)

Another important thing to know: you can apply the value of an unused ticket or pass, or even a partially used one with days left on it, toward the purchase of a higher-priced pass, as long as you do it before your pass expires. For instance, if you buy a 3-Day Park Hopper and then decide on the third day of use that you'd rather have an Annual Pass, you can apply the value of the Park Hopper toward the Annual Pass. Discounted passes will be credited at the actual rates you paid. Yes, Disney can tell how much you paid. It's encoded on the pass. To upgrade a pass, go to any Guest Services window.

If you buy a restricted Annual Pass (such as the Southern California Annual Passport, which has many "blackout dates"), but you plan to start your trip on one of the blackout dates, the blackout will not apply on the day you purchase the pass. So if you go to Disneyland on a Saturday and buy an Annual Pass that is normally not valid on Saturdays, you will still be able to use it that day at both parks.

Old Disneyland passes that were issued in the days before expiration dates applied can still be used. Their value is too low to be worth applying to a new pass, though. Just use them for admission (Guest Services will trade them for passes that will work at the gates) -- or if they're old enough, they might be worth more as collectibles!

Interesting, unpublished fact: you can use any unexpired, leftover days on a Walt Disney World ticket at Disneyland or DCA! Present the Disney World ticket at the gate on arrival -- they will take it somewhere, deduct a day from it, and give you a one-day Disneyland and/or DCA ticket. The type of Disneyland ticket you will receive is based on the Walt Disney World ticket you present: if you have a Disney World ticket with the Hopper option, you will get a Disneyland Hopper that allows you to visit both parks in the same day; on the other hand, if the Disney World ticket had no Hopper option, you will get a one-day/one-park ticket and will have to pick which park to enter that day. This information was confirmed as of May 2006.

Disneyland passes are NOT accepted at Walt Disney World, and Annual Passes are only good at the park where they were purchased (WDW Annual Passes are NOT good at Disneyland, and vice versa).

okay i just realized i don't have an extra day left on those tix, but i DO have an extra visit to DisneyQuest, Pleasure Island, etc. Does anyone know if these are tradeable for anything??

If I have 3 days left on a WDW Park hopper (old tickets from 2003),does this mean I can get a 2 day park hopper at DLR?
