Using TS credits for CS

We have decided to only make two TS ADR's and plan to just use TS credits at CS places. Has anyone done this? Any problems doing it? Any suggestions? We hated it last year that we were always tied to reservations and couldn't enjoy the parks like we use to. Always having to rush here and there to make it to the restaurant etc. I think this will be a much calmer vacation. Thanks for any advice.

I wasn't aware that you could do this but maybe someone else knows.

I think that is a great idea though for those that would prefer to do that during the free dining offer. It does get old having to be at TS at certain times and wastes a lot of time.

My experience comes solely from reading these boards...so not based on first hand experience...

I remember reading Bicker say that you may be able to change your TS credits to CS credits at your resort. But, once you change them, you can't change them back.

Oh-oh. I thought I remember people doing it last year. Hope I'm not wrong!

They did it last year during the free dining promotion. We got a flyer in our room telling us about the options. If I remember correctly, there was also a lanyard if you converted your TS to CS. Not sure if it will be offered this year.

Honestly, they don't need to reward me with a lanyard. I didn't realize that we would have to "convert" them. I just thought we could ask the cashier to treat it like a TS. Guess I better check into this a little more.

My experience is also only from reading these boards...

Last year they were allowing people in some cases to convert TS credits to CS (and I also heard they got a item like a lanyard). But the restaurants were so overcrowded that they also opened a temporary TS buffet at some odd place -- I'm thinking the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station? -- to try to accommodate the overflow of guests on the free dining plan. Ordinarily, you can't just walk up and convert TS to CS. It seems like it makes sense, and Disney would benefit because the CS meals are so much cheaper and there is also no included tip, but as far as I know you can't do this except under very special circumstances, like the madhouse dining last year

And you also can't convert 2 or 3 CS credits to a TS credit. But many people have reported if they had CS credits on their last day that resort food courts have allowed them to select like 2 snacks and a beverage for a CS credit. But that's not the norm, and there is nothing in the dining plan literature that says you can do that.

That is why I thought I could do it. It just made sense.

Now what? Guess I will contact my DU agent.

From the Dining Plan FAQ:
Can I use TS credits for CS meals?
No. During the last free dining promotion, Disney did extend an offer to use TS credits for CS meals (plus two snacks and a cheap lanyard), but that offer has expired. Prior to that offer, some (but not all) hotel front desks allowed some (but not all) guests to convert some of their remaining TS credits in the CS credits, with the understanding that once converted they cannot be converted back. However, that is not an official part of the Dining Plan, and so you may or may not be successful in getting them to do that for you.

Can I use two (or three) CS credits for a TS meal?
No. There is no way to combine CS credits to "pay for" a TS meal.

With only two TS meals, why even purchase the DDP? You can easily pay OOP for your meals and eat whenever and wherever you like without wasting money on something that you will not use.

Dining plan does not work for everyone and for every trip.

Sorry to confuse you. We are going in Sept where we are getting the free DDP.

Thanks Bicker. Guess I will have to go looking for some available ADR's. No word yet from my TA.

Your travel agent probably won't know quite yet. Disney probably hasn't decided if they'll offer it again. They waited until much closer to August/Sept and ADR/bookings to decide if they needed it I guess. If you are having trouble getting ADRs in May for a Sept trip, my guess is that you'll be able to "trade" your TS for CS meals w/o any trouble. But that's just a guess. :)

we used the DDP last June (not during free dining) and many times our server would count the CS as TS - we never had a problem. Maybe it depends who your server is.

The biggest barrier isn't the rules, but rather the fact that there isn't a key for "CS credit" on the POS systems for TS eateries, or vice versa. There often just isn't any way to make the computer understand that that's what you'd like to do, even if you wanted to do it despite the rules against it. When credit-exchanging is done, its typically either at the hotel front-desk, where they can simply manually override the allocations to each category, or at eateries that have both CS and snacks (and then, of course, it's just a matter of CS and snacks -- not TS).

Makes sense to me!

Just got off the phone with Disney Dining. I am very pleased with what I ended up with. Certainly wasn't worth all the nerves!

I got LeCellier, Crystal Palace, LTT, Kona Cafe and Coral Reef. Not the best but certainly could have been worse!!
