Using Transferred Points

So a while back I bought some points via transfer. They have been happily sitting (invisible) in my account. I know they are there and have even made a reservation (via phone) with some, but not all of them.

Here is my quandry. I would like to book some DVC rooms during a busy time period at the 7 month window. Neither my home resort nor the transferred points are for the resort I want so 7 months is all I can hope to try. (I know I probably won't get it, but I might as well make an attempt).

I have 36 points in my home resort. I have 75 points in the transferred resort.
I am running under the assumption that I can't simply make one reservation for 111 points and use 36 + 75 to cover it since my home and the transfer are different resorts. Is this correct?

I also have found out that I can only book the transferred points by phone. Is this still the case?

If I were to book two nights with my resort points at exactly 7 months, could I then add a few more nights to the reservation with the transfer points? OR do I have to wait two days for the new 7 month window to open?

If I need to wait for the new 7 month window, can I switch the two nights of points (home) to the transfer points so that I can use my home points for online booking when the new 7 month window opens?

Basically, I'm looking at the 1 hour between online access and phone access as being the make or break here.
Advice?

Thanks

I would call MS. The one time I had a similar situation as you, MS told me
since the points are in your name they can do a transfer between accts.
I know you already used a transfer option on one of your accts, but maybe you will get a nice MS.

I think you will be able to use them all in one reservation....but I'm no expert. You only have 1 membership number correct? If so, you should only have 1 account that ALL the points are in. The only difference is the resort and UY. So I would think the only reason you would have to separate them is if you were trying to book in advance of 7 months since they are different resorts. Again, I'm no expert so hopefully someone else with more knowledge will chime in. I would like to know as well in case we ever have points transfered in.

The reason I think this is because my brother is renting points for a reservation in May. Our friend who is he is renting from did not have enough points for his reservation so she transferred in points to her account from someone else, so that she could book his reservation. They are staying at beach club, it's not a split stay or anything. Of course, she could have made the first few nights with her points, and the extra nights with the transferred points, so what do I know.

Once you at the 7 month mark, points are points and can be combined for the reservation so you will be able to call and book what you want with both sets of points, pending availability.

If you use your points online at 8:00 am, I believe you would then be able to call at 9:00 and try to extend the stay using the transferred points. That would at lead twice you a jump on the first few nights in that hour.

Good luck!

Since the points all reside in one membership, they can all be combined and used for a reservation at 7 months. I think you will need to call MS to make the reservation since the transferred points probably won't show up in your online account to be able to make the reservation online.

Enjoy! :)

WebmasterDoc,

You are correct on needing to contact MS. I had some transferred points I used a month ago to make a reservation that did not show up on the member website and needed help from MS to make the reservation.

As another previous poster said, at 7 months, points are combined. In my case the transferred points were at the same resort as my points so I could combine them at the 11 month mark.

I haven't used transferred points yet, but am curious too!

In the case of same resort, does the transferred points have to be same UY to book at 11 months? Or is just the same resort needed to book at 11 months (but they don't appear in one's account). I think I read that if same resort and UY they would appear in the member's account (that received the transfer).

If you transfer another resorts points into your account, can you book at that resorts 11 month window? Any relevance of UY in this case?

Use year does not come into play when making the reservation only when the stay is going to occur.

I have seen the explaination which IMHO is very good. Figure out when (use year wise) your trip is going to fall in and make sure you have the points that can be used. Than at 11 months (for home resort), make the reservation.

In my case, the transferred points were Dec 2011 UY and my contact is March UY. The trip is in October. I had to bank the transferred points and some of my own points for the reservation.

Hope I didn't confuse you too much.

John

P.S. As a side note, not being able to see the points was a blessing. My wife did not know about the transferred points because I am suprising her with a 1 Bed MK view room for our 25 anniv. :-) What I don't like is that the reservation is front and center when I log into our account. Luckily she doesn't look over my shoulder when I'm online and she usually doesn't log into our dvc account. I don't want to tip my hand until we are in the room. :offtopic:
