Using the Internet on Board

Just an FYI. I travelled on the Disney Cruise last October and used the computers for AIM access. I knew this at that time, and shame on me for not asking anyone about it, but the computers on board save your screennames and passwords. I never asked anyone why they did that or if they wipe them out at the end of the cruise so I guess that what happened was my own fault. It appears that anyone can use your AIM screenname and password to sign on and talk to someone if they've paid for computer usage onboard. How do I know this you ask? Because I had a wonderful conversation the other night with a "child" who was on the cruise using my screenname. He said he just randomly chose a screenname from a list of hundreds that were on the computer at sign on and voila he got on. He talked to some people on my buddy list too. :-\ UGH. I wondered at the time what happened to all those screennames I saw on the computer when I was using it. I guess I thought that at the end of the cruise they wipe them all out and start again. Wrong.

American Online Instant Messanger. Make sure when you sign in you DO NOT click remember me. Twice I loged on and it signed someone else on right away. They clicked remember me or remember my password. Depending on program. I used both, and I used both to say hi to family and friend while on the cruise. But I dubbled check every time to check do not remeber me MSN. And Uncheck remember me and make sure that you do not have save password checked. I would deffantly change my pass word it I were you. If you change your pass word they will not beable to log on as you it will have the old password saved.

Another reason to never, ever allow any AOL software of any kind on your computer.

Thanks. Good advice when using a public computer.

Not necessarly AOL software...every instant messaging service I know of (AOL, MSN, Yahoo) has the "remember me" or "save my password" option. It's ok to do that on your home computer, but anywhere else is a big no-no. Additionally, I could not imagine my life with out AIM. It's let me stay in contact with friends and family across the world.

Remember too that if you are using something like the DIS that you actually log out and make sure it clears your cookies. I've logged on the DIS a number of times onboad and found logged in under someone else's screen name.

it isn't an AOL problem.. it is a user problem. Never ever ever click on the remember me unless you are on your own home computer where you know who will be using it.

So did AIM work pretty easily?? Was the computer super slow?
I'm trying to find a way for DD to keep in touch with her BF while we are gone! I have not mentioned this to her but I'm afraid she'll spend alot of time on the computer if I bought the unlimited package!
Are there other packages to buy or just the unlimited?

I remember doing this on our cruise and it didn't matter if you unchecked "remember me". It remembered anyway!! I tried in vein to get my user name and password off of it (this was Yahoo)! I even tried putting in a fake one, etc. Needless to say I didn't use Yahoo messenger on any other computer.
