Using sit down meal credits for counter service

So is there a definitive answer as to whether or not you can use table service meal credits for counter service meals even if you have counter service credits remaining? I keep finding different answers on line\forums, and have even had different answers from Disney when calling.

Here's my dilemma. We have booked free dining bounce backs for the past decade or so. The past two years we stayed moderate so we only got the QS plan anyway. Next year, daughters graduation, I'm splurging and doing two weeks at the Beach Club which will include the full\standard dining plan again. We like to eat, but honestly, not a sit down every single day for a number of reasons, not the least of which is it's just too much food, and frankly, the tips get out of control with a party of 5-6.

So lets say we want to do a few special sit downs for our favorite places. Maybe 4-5 the entire trip. If eating quick service, can we tell the CM we want to use table service credits whenever we choose too, or must we wait until all the QS credits are gone? As I've mentioned above, I keep reading different things about this, and have even gotten different responses from Disney when asking via the phone.

Thanks!

Probably 'save' them so they don't end up with just TS credits that can't be converted. I know I've used TS at QS, but it was a LONG time ago.
If more QS than TS are planned, then it might end up as oop, which wouldn't be good

They can definitely be used to purchase a QS meal, so it doesn't matter. You can always downgrade a dining plan entitlement.

Another option for solving your too much food and cost of tip issue is to eat TS but only have the entrée leaving the dessert as a tip. :)

Sorry, I guess you were looking for serious answers.

Wouldn't you be better to look for a discount on the room? This will certainly make your "free" dining more expensive considering you are paying rack rates and park hopper.

You could as of 2017 but according to most sources it's no longer allowed. As well it has no monetary savings value assuming that's part of the reasoning. Since your family prefers QS meals most of the time why not explore other offers besides the bounceback and see if you can save money that way? Truth be known you probably will as bounce back is based on rack rate and the included dining plan is not to your liking. Get some discounted Disney gift cards, add them to your room's acct and charge any meals via your magic bands; easy peasy. You may also consider getting an AP this time as you'll have several benefits that can lower food cost as well as room rate. A 2 week trip will definitely get you to the breakeven point.

We always enjoy staying at the Epcot area hotels but particularly love the ability to walk in and out of Epcot at will to reach the monorail area. Sure we could take the bus but we like the walk.

HTH.

Absolutely not. Free dining works for our family. We have had it for the past 10 years or so. Not to start that discussion, but "free dining" even with paying for hoppers, saves us more than even the most drastic room discounts. Example. This past trip we stayed at CBR for "rack rate". Room was around $200 per night. Even if we had a 25% room discount, that saves what? $50 per day? (So $6-700 over the course of two weeks)? Lunch alone for 4 is in the $70-80 range so your already saving more than a room discount. We average around $2500 in food on a 2 week trip. Room discounts don't come anywhere near that.

Thanks for the replies on this all. For those wondering why I would want to trade QS for TS? It really comes down to just not wanting that much food everyday, and not spending $500 on tips for a two week trip. (Yes, I remember when Disney used to include the tip with the dining plan. God I wish they would do that again).

Yes you can
But it's terrible value as TS is valued at 40-45+!
You can't get a QS for that price....

Yes this is true, but when your not paying for the dining plan is really doesn't matter that much.

What difference would it make? Is there a reason you want to "save" your QS credits?

I don't want to "save" them at all. I'm just trying to find out that if I run out of them, I can still eat QS with my TS credits. I probably didn't word my questions and thoughts right, lol.

Care to cite your sources? I've never seen anything that says you cannot use a TS credit to purchase a QS meal. Never seen a report here on the DIS, never seen anything from Disney, never seen it discussed anywhere. So where have you seen it said it is not allowed?

Hopefully, you feel assured that once you run out of QS credits, you will be able to use your remaining TS credits to purchase a meal.

Completely misunderstood the OP's question/purpose and jumbled snack conversion with TS and QS in my head. You can of course use TS credits 1 for 1 to purchase a very expensive QS. Reading really is fundamental

Yes - you can use a QS for a TS. We did it last year. It isn't a good use of a credit, but if you got the plan for free, it isn't like you are trying to maximize the plan.

Did you say this backward? You can use aTS for a QS, not the other way around.
