Using points outside of DVC or renting studio

For our upcoming trip my brother was turned down for his vacation time so I have an extra studio. My family is flying in and out on Sats. We want to stay onsite and without any discount the All Stars are $125 (we don't have an AP or AAA). The points are still bankable because I am outside the window and they were not borrowed.

Should I cancel and bank?
Rent the studio at BWV during F&WF? For how much since this time is in demand?
Cancel the studio and get the two Saturday nights at a moderate, borrowing 2 pts?
Invite my FIL to go, DH says this will be okay but I don't want to mix families (it is time for MY side of the family to go) but he will stay to himself most of the time).

Renting is my least favorite option because I don't want to deal with it. But, I may be able to rent to someone locally, and have the cash in hand without having to deal with PayPal.

Thanks for the advice! Oh! And for those of you who have heard my complaining of the terrible family trips in the past, I have promised myself, this is the LAST one!

Well, if the studio is during Food and Wine, then you would certainly be able to rent it out, but if you don't want to rent, then bank the points and use them for yourself next year. I would not EVER use the points at a Moderate non-DVC hotel unless I had lots of extra points to waste. You could rent at BC or Poly for just a few more points, but your best value is using them right AT a DVC resort. Maybe saving the points will allow you to get a larger room next year.

Did you book the studio separately or was it part of a 2 bedroom lock off?

If it was a separate booking, I'd cancel it and bank the points. That way I'd be done with it.

If the "extra" studio were part of a 2 bedroom lock off, you may not be able to cancel it and still keep the 1 bedroom portion. In that case, I'd either invite my FIL or just spread out and use the extra room for my family. Can't key the studio separately if it was part of a lock off and I'd rather not rent in that case - even if it were someone I knew. That's JMHO.

I don't quite understand what your brother's cancelling has to do with the Saturday night. Do you not have a room for Saturday night? If not and you are considering a mod, does that meant there are no DVC studios available anywhere on site for that night? It's less points for a studio than a mod room and if you are going to move what difference would it make which resort you stayed in for Saturday? I'm confused.

The studio is a studio, not a lock off. We do not have a room for either Sat night and were considering AS or a moderate. I plan on calling MS tomorrow to see if I can get something DVC if available since I now have the extra points. But, I am concerned since it is such short notice, so I want to have a back up plan in mind.
