Using Points in "Reservation Status"???

About to acquire a DVC resale and have a question about points in Reservation status.
The original owners booked a trip (cruise I think) then canceled. My understanding is that the Points go back into Reservation status and can NOT be used at a DVC property. They can be used at a Disney collection site.

Can someone explain how the process works?
What additional fees we may incur when booking? Do we need to pay the $95 if the points are already in reservation status?

What about Point charts for the Disney Collection Resorts. Is there a single location which has all sites/options?

Thank you in advance

Yes, points in "Reservation" status cannot be used for stays at DVC resorts or for the World Passport Collection. They may be used for the Disney Collection (WDW resorts, DL resorts, DCL), Concierge Collection and Adventure Collection. There will be a $95 charge for these options (except the DL resorts, I believe).

The complete list will be on your DVC planner and online at the dvcmember site.

"Reservation" points cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the Use Year. They may be transferred, but will retain the same restrictions. Since they are already in "Reservation" status, they can be used to reserve and stay during the last 4 months of your Use Year.

Thanks. We won't close for a few more weeks as we wait on the ROFR process.

You mention that points can not be banked but I want to be 100% sure I understand what we are getting (or potentially not getting)

"The contract states there are xxxx
BANKED year 2009 points that are in reservation status and expire November 31, 2011"

Is there someone I can talk to at MS to be clear? Since I don't have a member # yet not sure of my options

I am pretty sure then that the original reservation that was cancelled was in the 2011 year. What that means then is that those points in reservation status can only be used in the 2011 year, not really that they are banked points.

The points may have been already banked and then the Disney Collection reservation made and later cancelled. Therefore they would expire at the end of the UY they were banked into.

What other's mean by stating you cannot bank reservation points is that after the points go into reservation status you cannot turn around and bank them. I know it confusing. :confused3 But it does get easier to understand with time.

If they expire November 30, 2011, they would have to be used in the 2010 use year - 12/1/10 to 11/30/11 (date of stay). Sounds like they were banked from the 2009 use year to make the cruise reservation for the 2010 use year.

As noted, these were 2009 points, banked into the 2010 Use Year and used for a cruise that was later canceled. Thus, they are now in "Reservation" status. Since they were already banked points they cannot be transferred either but may be used from December 1, 2010 thru November 30, 2011 for the already mentioned non-DVC options. That alone makes them much more flexible since you have a full year to use them since they will not expire at the end of the current Use Year.
