Hi everyone. Am jumping over from my usual spot on the restaurant boards to ask a question. Am thinking about using points in 2002 (probably May) for one of the cruise ships. From what I can gather, I cannot do the 7 day, and am limited to the 3/4 day trips. Is that so?? And it appears the 11-month booking window also applies. Is that enough time to book passage?? I am totally uncomfortable with the whole idea of cruise ships and the harder they make it to book, the less likely I am to do so. Any advice appreciated

Who said you can't do a 7 night on points? I am. Yes, the 11 month booking window applies and should be enought time to book.

Trust me you are gonna love it!

Sure you can do the 7 day. They even have a 7 day fall fantasy rate for this year. Check the DVC webite. As for 11 month window, yes it applies, but I had no problem booking a 3 day for last month back in December.

We had no problem (other than the massive amount of points) booking a Category 4 room for the inaugural 7-day cruise on points. By 2003, we will have saved up enough points to do it again. For us it was a great way to leverage our DVC membership into something different. The was no way that my wife was going to spend that much cash on a cruise. But she had no problem spending that many points. If you check around, you will find that there are (at least) two schools of thought on using points for cruising. One group suggests that you sell your points to another individual and use that cash to book your cruise. The other group suggests just using points. I suppose an obvious third choice is to book one adult with points and pay cash for the remaining guests. So many choices. Anyway, just take the cruise and have a blast.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will check the DVC members site and the cruise board. It does seem like a massive amount of points though----. Ah well. Going to WDW on May 8 and again in December Plenty of time to think this over.
