We are considering going on our 1st Disney cruise in Feb. 2007. My question is, should we use our points or pay cash. I have enough points by combining 2006 and some 2007 points. Our party is 3 people. Any thoughts from the experienced cruisers? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I did it and I'm glad we did. We never would have coughed up the cash needed for a Cat 8 stateroom and I've never gotten comfortable with renting points. Those who are comfortable renting points, I think, validly argue that it's smarter to rent your points and use the proceeds to pay cash for your DCL reservation.

Oops, sorry, it was a Cat 4 (Deck 8, that's what I was thinking). Either way you go, cruising is great. It was our first time, too. Didn't know what to expect, but very glad we did it.

We did it also, and don't regret it! we used points for the two kids and we paid cash for us. It was 174 points, and think it was the best thing, we booked very late, (2-3 weeks before the cruise), so rates were high, and this worked out better. If you cruising Feb break, its probably cheaper to use points than cash! Good Luck

If you do not mind renting then use cash. We are going on a 4 night cruise in July 2007. If you book early and use a travel agent that offers a cash rebate then you can get a great rate. When we priced out the cruise versus points Disney would have valued our points at $7 per point. You can rent them for a lot more. Also if you use points you take the chance of having your points restricted if you have to cancel. There is a great cancellation poicy with cash but not a good policy for points. Also I believe that the trip insurance is a better value. From what I heard the trip insurance pays $5 per point but you should confirm it.

Thanks for the replies. Yes , we are going on the Feb. break, one of the more popular and pricier timeframes. We have never gone cruising and DD and I have bben working DW over for a few years, she finally broke down about a cruise. (gotta strike now before she realizes what she agreed to) :stir:

Compare the actual price to the number of points and determine the value for yourself. Remember there are other negatives to using points or points plus cash than just the reduced value per point.

My husband and I have only cruised on points. We are taking our next 7 day western next month and have just reserved for the med repositioning cruise in August 2007--all on points. We too are not renters and find the value isgood for us. If you have the points use them any way that will make you happy and don't worry about it.

im not into all that renting points so we went on the 7 night cruise using points. at the dvc meeting on board they said there were 130 staterooms that were booked on points. next year im going on the 14 night transatlantic cruise on points.

Booked our cruise on the Wonder for Feb. 2007. Used our points and already received a packet of info. :cool1: We wento for our passports and have them on order, so things are looking great. We cannot wait!! :goodvibes

We booked a 3-day cruise for next summer using points. Since we are also using points for 5 days at SSR, we used points for 2 of us and paid for the other 2. I don't regret doing it! :beach:

I know this may be moved to another thread, but anyway, does anyone know when the 2007 Member Cruise is?
