We are booked into BWV and BCV for the last week of August. I know this is during hurricane season, so I am wondering what happens to my points if at the last minute we cannot fly due to an approaching hurricane? Since it is past my banking deadline (Oct UY), would those points be lost if we could not reschedule our vacation prior to Oct?

Thanks in advance for any help...

First of all, get travel insurance. If you CAN'T (not, don't want to) fly due to a hurricane, DVC has been fairly flexible in the past, but they are under no obligation to be flexible. My guess is that you won't have any problem, but I would buy the travel insurance for at least some peace of mind. BTW, we have had this problem and everything worked out through DVC, travel insurance, and the other travel providers.

Buy travel insurance - and be sure the policy you select covers hurricanes.

I know DoctorP already posted that, but I thought it was worth repeating. :)

Bestw ishes -

So if I buy the travel insurance (either through Disney or otherwise), how does that work with the points? Is there a dollar value assigned to the points? Or are the points protected so I do not lose them?

hurricane season starts June 1 and goes until Nov 30.....

so it is almost 6 months.

I think the insurance assigns a dollar amount to the points. It use to be silly - like the maintence fees only...

I don't know if this has improved - call and ask MS before you buy it....

there are other travel insurance that you can use - you don't have to get one that DVC recommends...

If you know a huricane is coming on your travel dates go a day or 2 early, there is no safer place during a huricane then Disney World.

If you use DVC's insurance, the reimbursement is $5 per point, you do not keep the points. The cost is $5 x number of points x .0515. An example for 150 points would be $38.63 premium.
