Trying to figure out the best approach with the least amount of time spent on the phone.

Recently got off Treasure and purchased a placeholder assigned to me as wasn't sure how soon would use it. The original cruise (on Treasure) was purchased via Costco so got a shop card after we cruised, which helped to offset some cost and was nice to get.

Have decide to cruise sooner than I was expecting, since I have to call Disney to use my placeholder ...

Would I get them to transfer the placeholder to Costco and then call Costco to have them book (I would still get the 10% off, right?) so that I could get a shop/gift card?

OR call Disney to book the placeholder, than transfer the booked cruise to Costco (not sure how to do this) and still be eligible to get a shop/gift card?

Trying to save a little money.

If you booked your last cruise through Costco then your placeholder should have been assigned to Costco upon purchase. If you chose not to assign the placeholder to Costco when you bought it then you will need to fill out a form within 30 days of purchase to transfer it to Costco. You will have to call Costco to use the placeholder and book the cruise. Costco will not give you a shop card if you do not book the cruise through them.

I second what @DVC Deac said above. If for some reason the placeholder wasn’t already assigned to Costco there’s a travel agent transfer form on the Costco travel website you would print, fill out and send to Disney to get the placeholder transferred to Costco. It is crucial that it’s filled out and sent before 30 days of booking the placeholder even if you don’t have ann actual cruise date picked out. Once it’s past 30 days you can no longer transfer it to a different travel agent.

In ordinary circumstances I think that you can still get the costco GC if you transfer your booked cruise within the 30 days that you booked it.... but it's more complicated with a placeholder b/c the date you booked the placeholder starts the 30 day countdown. But yes, you can transfer the placeholder to Costco and then call Costco to book it, you'll still get the 10% off from the placeholder and will get the Costco GC after the cruise.
