Using Other Resort Swimming Pools

We'll be staying at PC for our upcoming trip in May. On our MK day, we are taking a break and hoping on the monorail to the Poly. We plan on eating @ Kona, taking what used to be called the water mice out for a spin, and take a dip in the pool. And that's where I have a question. I think it used to be that you could use another resorts pool as long as you were staying somewhere on property. But, I think I heard that maybe this was cracked down upon post- 9/11. So, any recent experiences about using another resorts swimming pool? Do you have to be a guest of the Poly to check out towels? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Only Disney Vacation Club Members can use pools other than where you are staying, so No, you can not use the pool at the Polynesian. There are signs posted at each pool stating policy and also in the Newsletter you receive at check in.

Resort ID's are checked and you would not be able to get towels either. If you wish to swim somewhere other than your resort pool then I suggest a water park.

This is a topic that can very heated very quickly. Guests at deluxe resorts pay a heavy cost for the exclusive use of their resorts pools and amenties so you can certainly understand why they do not want it overcrowded by guests not paying to stay there.

Have a magical stay and enjoy your trip, your meal and the water mice.

this stop long, long ago - way before then - it stopped when All Star Music was built....So long ago.

they did only when All Star Sports were new - to get more people to stay there.

Once they got people to stay there - they quit this benefit. besides too many deluxe resorts guests were complaints about their pools being filled. and they were especially SALB.

you can however still rent the boat!!!

The "crack down" started before 9-11. It started when Disney built the moderates and value resorts and added destination pools like SAB and the Volcano Pool at POLY. The MK resort pools are not large enough to accomodate the guests of other resorts who want to take a mid-day pool break.

If the pool isn't crowded you might get away with it but many people don't want the embarrassment of having their family ejected.

Unless you are staying at the Poly or are a DVC member, pooh hopping is not allowed. The lifeguards reserve the right to check all resort IDs and the code is on them as to what resort you are staying in.

The great thing is that when you are staying in the Port Orleans resorts you have 2 themed pools from which to choose, not to mention a variety of quiet pools.

I remember when the Yacht and Beach Club first opened. It was impossible to find even a upright chair let alone a chaise. I asked a teenage girl if I could have one of the chairs she was propping up her legs on for my mother. She refused. Shortly after I overheard her conversation and learned that she and her friend lived in Kissimee and like to drop in to go swimming!

Okay, eeyore, I can't resist...

Is "tigger" hopping allowed?

:flower:

As a frequent guest of the Poly I can tell you they check IDs even in low season. The pool still gets crowded and they make sure only paying guests are there. I always see some embarrassed family getting the boot out of the pool! Please swim at the resort pool you pay for. And welcome to the DIS!

I am in no way advocating pool hopping. I've never done it before and despite feeling guilty about not being a paying guest at the resort, I wouldn't have the guts!! I am just going to say that it can be done. I have a friend who goes to college by Disney and her and her friends have often gone to the pools at the resorts. She mentioned her favorites were the Coronado springs pool and the Poly pool, so I know it's been done and she said she has never gotten kicked out.

Just wanted to say that I've never done it (and never will!) but I know that it can be done... if I were you I'd prepare myself to be embarassed if you did in fact get found out!! :sad2:

Oooo that gets me hot under the collar!

Well, SAB is practically impossible to "hop" too. They fenced it in just to prevent that. (Plus don't believe everything people tell you... I have heard some great stories that I know weren't true.... I once met someone who claimed to have stayed in Walt's apt in the MK....Yeah and I have the winning lottery numbers right here!)

I don't plan on doing it, but am curious. Someone said DVC members can pool hop? Is that to all WDW pools or just DVC pools? and how about people who rent DVC points? Their room key will say DVC member--correct?

I'll be renting points for BWV in May and again am just curious if I could pool hop if I wanted to.

I learned 2 things from this thread. (love to learn) :flower:

1) I WANT to be a DVC member. :goodvibes
2) I am definitely not letting my BIL and his pack and mangy *!#*! come and swim at my hotel. I could NOT stand the embarassment of them being kicked out. They keep promising (threatening) this everytime we go down there. And everytime I convince my DH to conveniently have something to do. After all, if I wanted to spend time with them I would have stayed with them! :rotfl:

So thank you everyone for the extra ammunition. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

This Aug DS13 & I are planning to:
poolhop to GF pool after dinner at GF Cafe
poolhop to Contemp after brkfst at Chef Mickey's
poolhop to Poly after brkfst at Kona
poolhop to BW after brkfst at Spoodles

yes we are DVCers - the only 2 pools we can never poolhop to are Stormalong Bay at BC and the AKL pool - we're staying at BCV our 2nd wk so will use Stormalong Bay then

I have been a DVC member for 3 years, and have never pool-hopped (is that even a word?) I don't know what the appeal is to haul all your stuff either in your car or the WDW bus to a resort far away from where you are staying. Then to have to get back or go somewhere else after with all your wet suits. I would love to be enlightened.

I have walked around the Boardwalk to check out the pools, just never wanted to hop in.

DVC members can pool hop to all pools except the SAB at the Yacht and Beach and the pool at the AKL. There are restrictions though. Certain peak times and holidays you can not pool hop. These are listed in the DVC newsletter. Also members are to contact the resort before going to make sure they are not at capacity and pool hoppping has been suspended.

We are members but do not pool hop. Even though we are allowed it is too much hassle and I would not do that to the paying guest. It is highly over rated in my opinion. If swimming in a particular pool is a priority we just stay there.

We are also DVC members and I have never hopped. Way too much hassle for me. We 'might' try hopping over to the Polynesian this June since dd really likes that pool, but that's a huge maybe. I believe you have to be a member in order to pool hop, not 'renting' points. But, I could be wrong.

Just way to much trouble for us. We stay where we want to swim pretty much. Or go to a water park. No way do I want to be carting all that stuff around to the parks..getting a locker, stowing it, dragging it back out. Nope.
