What happens if I arrive at my Disney hotel try to unlock door with MDE app on my phone and its not working is there cards available for the room?

Also, I stick a couple old Magicbands in my suitcase for the door, so I have an option other than my mobile device.
Definitely. I use only the old MBs. They work fine for door opening and park admission.

Just got back from a recent trip...

Party of 7 in one room 1 in another room
All of our magic bands worked and never went to the front desk. There were no issues at all,
My son has three magic bands; all would open our door and his grandmother's room with no issues.
We switched to another Disney hotel, and there were no issues there. again never had to go to the front desk.

I forgot my magic band and was able to open the door with my phone and the MDE app... no issue

personally, if you had an old magic band, I would bring it and link it to your MDE app, if not I think a cheap Magic band is 25 dollars, the fancy ones are 45 or 50, I would get a cheap one...

You can still purchase old-school MBs (MB2) as part of your stay at a WDW resort. I haven't looked today, but I bought an MB2 for my last trip and it was $9.99. They shipped it to me, although if you're not in the US, you'd have to pick it up at your resort. There were several styles of the old bands available.

I might consider buying a magicband when I arrive we unable to pre-order as Disney no longer offers pre-ordering magicbands for international guests outside US. I just go to the desk on arrival with photo ID and MDE app and show them the cormfirmation number on the MDE app and them they give me a card them go to the room if the phone doesn't work them use the card. I'll visit Disney Springs to have a look at magicbands and probably purchase one and take it to the room to charge battery and read instructions on packet.

Yes, it's too bad about international guests not having this convenience.
Enjoy your stay! pixiedust:

My sister-in-law's cell phone was not able to be used to unlock her resort room at POR because the phone was outdated. They gave her a key card at the front desk and that worked perfectly. :)

It was a lot easier to use a key card than the MDE app on the cell phone, imo. I can pull a keycard out and tap it on the door lock a lot faster than pulling out the cellphone, opening the app, and then hitting the "unlock the door" tab.

Lots of stores at Disney World have the MagicBand+ (the newer version). If you want the cheaper, older version, they are harder to find. There were none in the Emporium at Magic Kingdom at end of October. I asked a castmember, and she said none of the theme parks had gotten them recently. I looked in the gift shop on the BoardWalk for the older version and found some sparkly ones; your six-year-old might love them but other people might hate them. Swan and Dolphin had a better selection of the older version which were not sparkly. I didn't go to Disney Springs so I don't know what they have.

Here are the ones that were in the gift shop on the BoardWalk:
