Hello! Does anyone know what happens with restaurant and merchandise charges at the various stores if they are charged through the magic band in lieu of directly through the merchant? I'm wondering about how various charges will be "coded" for my credit card points. Does anyone know if I would need to use the actual credit card or will it still show up through the specific merchant if I run it through the magic band? TIA!

Everything is billed to your credit card as one charge, all coded to one category. As pp mentioned, it is probably all coded as travel/lodging. If you want points for specific types of transactions, I’m guessing that you would have to use the credit card at those merchants, and not charge back to the room using a magic band.

As the others have said it goes though as one charge. If you are looking for bonus points for dining you will definitely need to pay with your CC at the restaurants. Remember to use the CC for QS locations also to get bonus dining points. To insure maximum bonus points always use your card rather than the MB. The one exception may be the food booths at EPCOT during the various festivals. I don't know how they are coded. I always use a gift card or MB for those as I don't want my CC getting flagged & then declined for multiple small charges.

I saw on my room charge that some of the F&W kiosks came through as "China special event" (or whatever country it was).....though I know that that is the code IN Disney, it might show up on credit cards that way too....

I'm going to plan to use my CC at the restaurants for sure to ensure I get double points. Thanks everyone!

Disney Resort room charges are typically coded as travel/lodging.

So, if my card gives me double points on travel charges, do you happen to know if that would be the same thing? I know that travel is typically limited to hotel or resort, rental car, uber/taxi, etc. I'm assuming that if it is a "hotel charge", it would be coded as a travel charge, regardless of its the lodging bill or otherwise. I don't know how the cc company would have a way to make a distinction if it is being ran as a charge by the hotel? I'm thinking I'm going to use my credit card for restaurants to definitely get the double points and run everything else through the MB, hoping that anything other than restaurants will hopefully all be run through as a "hotel charge" and count as travel for travel double points. Thanks for the info!

Yes. Lodging is basically a subcategory under Travel.

For our Sept stay, our room charges were coded as lodging and were considered travel when it came to calculating rewards for our Costco Visa.

Perfect...that is exactly what I was hoping to hear! Thanks so much.

FYI - just got back and when I scanned the band it was charged to my room. However, when I used Mobile ordering it went straight to my card as dining and bypassed the hotel bill. Just FYI as that was confusing on reconciling.

I wouldn't have thought of that, but it makes sense I guess. Thanks so much for clarifying that.
