Using gift cards to pay deposit

I am not sure, but it might be easier to transfer all of the smaller gift cards onto one card. That way you only need to keep track of one. You can have up to $1000 on a Disney gift card.

Thanks. I'm estimating my deposit to be around $2000 (assuming the summer 2019 cruises come out after the 50% deposit ends). Would I be able to use 2-3 cards then?

Thats a heck of a deposit! Hopefully you are getting a great incentive. If you are booking directly with DCL, you can transfer to a TA for an on board credit or Costco for 8.5% of your cruise cost as a Costco cash card.

Absolutely save ALL gift cards involved with payments to DCL until your cruise is complete. If you ever have to cancel, all refunds are in the form of original payment.
Even if you don't cancel, weird things could happen. I had a placeholder cruise (booked onboard). Last Feb we moved it to a real sailing in August, Norwegian Fjords cruise. Found out I couldn't get that week off work so we moved it to March. When the final payment due date approached, we discovered we weren't 100% certain we could cruise in March so we moved it to June but still hopeful maybe closer to March we could change it back. Well out of nowhere, I see multiple refunds on my cc. I contact my TA who reaches out to DCL and gets it all straightened out. They reinstated my reservation with all onboard booking perks intact. They rebilled my cc but the $15 refund went back to my GC, was still there and an extra $15 taken from my cc. If that had been a huge amount, I might not be so carefree about it.
I trust they would have fixed that as well but I'm glad I caught the whole thing and will remember to bring my GC to apply to our onboard account or use at PIF date.

We don't have Costco membership, but 8.5% of $10,000 would be worth 2 years of membership (5 of us going on a 7 day Fantasy in July).

But, if we transfer it to Costco after booking later this month, can we still use Disney gift cards to pay off the balance in spring 2019? BJs has 4% off gift cards. 4% of $8000 balance would be another $320.

Yes, you can use gift cards with Costco. It will require calling them and then they get Disney on the line and relay the card numbers.

I used Disney Cards through Sam's to pay for the entire cruise. My credit pays 2.5% cash back so it is great deal.

Yes, but consolidate the cards online at the disney card site so you only have to deal with one number.

Should net you $800 to $850 in the Costco cash card.
