Using Frequent Flier Miles

My DH and I have enough FFM to each get a round trip ticket to MCO from Philly. We also need to purchase two tickets for our children (a 2 year old and an infant). Should I call to book everything or can I book the FFM on line then call the airline (USAirways) and have them link up our on-line FFM tix to the kids' tix?

I'd call and book it all over the phone to avoid any possible confusion.

We ran into a problem with CO once when I was booked on a FF ticket and DH's ticket was pourchased with cash. Even though they were "linked" they still tried to bump me and not him. We both ended up having to take a bump in order to travel together.

You can check availability of FF tickets online at usairways.com. Logon through your FF account. It might easier if you know what is available before you call. I am thinking of using FF tickets for December but I'm not ready to book yet. When I checked it last month, all they had available for FF were 6:00am flights with connections both ways (PIT/MCO). FF availability is scarce these days, unless you have enough miles to get an unrestricted ticket.

I've never had a problem with booking split parties with some on FF tix and some on paid tix. You will wind up with two separate reservations, however.

You also might want to consider using the FF miles for the kid's tix and paying for your own. That way you'll earn more FF miles for yourself. If you travel on FF tix you typically don't earn FF miles.

jestocost has a point. If you use FF miles for your kids what's the chances of them bumping your kids off a flight? A 2 year old and an infant are too young to travel alone...but if I remember right because they don't mandate them buying a seat their fares are 1/2 price. In that case I guess you'd have to use the FF miles for yourselves.
