I just got the DVC sales package in the mail today and did not realize how many hotels around hte country and abroad that you can use DVC points on, but there was nothing in the package or that I could find on here about how it works.

If I wanted to use my points on a hotel someplace like New Orleans or Rome, how do you know how many points that costs...and is there a monetary fee to use my DVC points at these places?

Thanks,
Adam

It's a poor use of points to use them mainly for non-DVC vacations. Every non-DVC vacation requires a $95 transfer fee, plus the points. You can't just book these places either. You may have to go on a waitlist to see if they become available.

If you buy DVC points, use them at DVC resorts.

As Beb said, there is a $95 fee to use points outside the DVC system. AS far how difficult they are to book, that depends. If it is through the Disney Collection of Buena Vista collection, probably relatively easy, as those resorts have private agreements with DVC, where DVC pays a set amount of cash to rent a room, and a DVC room is turned over to cash reservations to offset the cost.

World Passport, however, is another story. Those trades are through RCI, which is a timeshare trading company, there really is no way to know what may be available at anytime.

The point requirement for World Passport aren't too bad for an occasional trade out, but it really is best to use the points for DVC stays.
