Not sure if this posted in the right area.

I have the Disney Visa and use it daily for all my purchases and pay it off in full each month. Can someone explain to me, in child terms, very slowly how to take advantage of the 6 month interest free? I've read the terms many and the different posts here, but I just don't get it. A stupid question here....if I was to book it now, the 6 months start running now, now after the trip right? Told you I need the info spooned very slow to me!

Thanks

Are you booking through Disney and staying on property? If so....you only need to put $200. down and that will be deferred from date of deposit. Then....when you make final payment - can't remember if it's a month out or two weeks or what? then that will be deferred for six months from that charge. Does that make sense? :confused3 If you ask the person you are booking the trip through - they should know (an agent or the CM at Disney).

Okay.. I did this same thing. I paid the two hundred dollar deposit with a different credit card. I then paid that off.

When my deadline was approaching to pay for my trip I called and paid the balance in full with my disney card. Then my six months started.

Hope that makes since. I didnt want to put the two hundred on there incase the six months started then.

Yes, I'd book through Disney and stay on site. I MIGHT be following you lol!
If I booked today, I'd leave a $200 deposit, then when the balance is due (I think it's 45 days out) I defer to the 6 month interest plan?

If I followed correct, how do I do that? call back Disney and tell them?

Also, how does this effect my daily charging? Do I continue to pay off my monthly charges without getting any interest on the vacation?

I'm not 100% sure about this part, but I think this is how it works...you pay your deposit today, and it goes into a special section on your bill and remains at 0% for 6 months. Then when you pay your balance, that amount starts at 0% from the time you charge it. You might want to confirm that, but I'm pretty sure that's how I remember it working. We never had to notify Disney Visa or anything like that...all the charges for the package went right into that 0% offer.

As for daily charges, it really doesn't affect them at all. USUALLY, credit cards apply any payment to your lowest APR balance, but not on the Disney Visa. If you have $1000 in everyday charges and you pay $500, you will pay interest as usual on those charges, but still 0% on your vaca. If you pay $1200, your $1000 is paid off and the "extra" $200 will come off the package. This part I'm 100% sure about! :thumbsup2

PP is right, you don't have to tell Disney anything-it will automatically be separated out on your DV bill. My $200 deposit from April (for Sept.) is interest free until sometime in Oct. Then since my balance is due in July (24th??) after that posts the balance will also show up on a separate line and it'll be interest free until Jan. 24th. Just make sure you pay it before the 6 months or you'll be charged interest for the whole time.

When I booked our trip this year I wasn't even sure we would be going but since I could cancel up to 45 days before the start and the deposit was interest free past that date it was an easy decision to make. If I had to cancel it wouldn't have cost me a thing. Luckily, we are going and so I will be putting the balance on my card in July, and pay it off in January. (Deposit in October)

Hello all! I am here to correct the previous posts-the 6 months starts when you make the deposit!!!NOT when you pay the remaining balance!!I was not happy to find this out the hard way!I called to book and put the $200 deposit down on my card.I think that was in Feb.I then called in May to pay the remaining balance due.At that time I discussed with them AT LENGTH the 6 months % interest. They told me that it had started when I made the deposit.I argued that that was dumb because I would have put that on another card had I known!I told them that I lost 3 months of free interest all for the $200 wich I could have just paid if I had known. So know I only get 3 months with 0 interest on the $3000 I paid:headache:

Would it work then if I put the $200 deposit on another card? Then when the balance is due the 6 months would start?

I almost hate to ask the cc company, they almost never give the right answer. I'd rather ask people who have done it.

You get 6 months from your deposit date to pay the depost at 0%, then 6 months from your final payment to pay that at 0%. Works great. I would pay my other charges and + $100 or so each month.

that's not how it worked for me (more than once). :confused3 i got 6 months from deposit and 6 months from final payment - two seperate charges - two seperate items on a seperate page from my other charges. :)

So you are saying that you booked the trip, left the $200 deposit on the Disney Visa, had 6 months to pay that at 0%? Then when the final balance was due (at like 45 days out?) you put that money on the Visa and had another 6 months to pay that off at 0%? That sounds too good to be true. Am I understanding correctly?

that is true - you understand correctly. These will show on the second page of your statement as deferred payments due. I just love the system! We've used it several times. Your flight can't be included however...just the rest of the trip. :thumbsup2

We went to WDW in October 2008 and I made several payments on my Disney Visa before we went. I pulled one of my old statements to see how things were handled. The 6-month 0% promotional period was 6 months from the date of each individual charge (my statement closes the 2nd of each month).

These are just a few of the charges to show how things were handled-

Qualifying Promotional Financing

Qualified promo trans - Total Qual Trans Amt - $750.00
Expiration Date - 01/02/2009
Transaction Date = 06/25/2008

Qualified promo trans - Total Qual Trans Amt - $600.00
Expiration Date - 02/02/2009
Transaction Date = 07/16/2008

Qualified promo trans - Total Qual Trans Amt - $200.00
Expiration Date - 03/02/2009
Transaction Date = 08/15/2008

We put the deposit on and then 45 days prior I called and put the balance on the Disney Visa. There is a place on your bill that tells you what part you can defer for the six months. I paid the deposit the month I charged it, but it is also deferred so if you want the reward points and the six months you don't need to use another card.

After reading everyones imput I went and dug my bill out.I had a long conversation with the cc company about this when I called to pay and yet I see I was told incorrect info:confused3 No surprise there!!
To correct my last post-my bill DOES show 2 different sets of 0% dates.one from the time I made my dep and one from the time I paid the remaining bal due.I was so mad after the phone call I never even thought to look at it on the bill (since I thought they knew what they were talking about!!!)
It is a great deal and you should do it if you can:thumbsup2
