Using Disney Visa perks

I normally plan all of our trips myself but booked our May cruise through a TA because of a great OBC/cash back offer they were offering. I was reading this thread about the $50 OBC toward beverages and called the TA on Friday to have it applied since I paid for the entire cruise with our Disney VISA. She made contact with Disney and it was applied.

I asked to apply for my OBC by using Disney Visa. She placed the charge on my Visa, then told me I could not get a credit since I was getting a discount rate on my cruise! Really?? Debating about calling Visa directly....

What kind of rate did you book? If you have a *GT rate, you should be able to get the Disney Visa OBC offer as well. If you have an FLR, MTO or OBB -- then no, you cannot get the Visa OBC offer.

Enjoy your cruise!

I would have used my AMEX card, but my TA told me I could get the Disney Visa OBC. Unfortunately, she went ahead and booked it with my Visa then let me know by email..:headache: I have seen stacked OBC's before so I did not really think it was an issue. (Yes, we did have a special rate... not a *GT rate.)

We use the Visa for restaurants, grocery, and gas since all of those get the 2%. We also PIF monthly. In the two years between our cruises, we had enough to cover our tips and onboard charges. It was pretty nice! Not sure we will have that before the PC we are hoping for next May, but that is why we budget!

Does anyone know what the perk will be for 2016 bookings?
Hard to say. The change from general OBC to beverage only OBC was pretty recent, and for cruises booked after 1/1/15, not just cruises IN 2015. If you book now, the OBC will be for beverages, regardless of when the cruise is, I believe.

DCL told me they couldn't add the code for my 2016 cruise yet because the deal only is for cruises in 2015 at this point. They said I could call back later in the year if something is added.

I had to call and have them apply the offer... Not automatic for sure. Very picky about only applying to drinks. If your purchase is a combo gift that has drinks and food. Obc can not go towards it.

I also did the card without the annual fee because they were offering a $100 statement credit for the annual fee card and $50 for regular (for new applications)

The annual fee is $50 a year- so really all they are doing is waving the annual fee for a year in addition to $50

I can't forsee me earning enough disney dollars to justify the $50 annual fee since we can't do parks annually.

Our cruise is $2k - so that's still only $40 in disney dollars if we had the annual fee card that pays %2

I put it on the no fee so we will only get 1% ($20) - however that puts us in the positive instead of -$9 after annual fee.

I guess if you are pushing several thousand a year in cruise and park packaged - the full card would justify that annual fee for any purchases over $2,500 every year.

You really have to do the math!

Keep in mind that the 2% is on some categories other than Disney too. It also includes gas, groceries and restaurants (in addition to Disney purchases). If you charge those things on the card as well, you might earn enough to justify the annual fee. I charge everything on the card (and pay it off at the end of the month) so I average 40 rewards dollars a month. I can easily cover the annual fee in about 3 or 4 months (with the difference between the 1% and 2% in those categories). So anything above that is bonus :)

Same here. We originally booked a cruise for this fall, but changed plans and will be going in January 2016. We would have been guaranteed an $50 beverage credit on our Fall 2015 cruise. We were told that we couldn't be guaranteed the same for next year even though we booked in 2015.
I like the 0% financing for 6 months. We booked our cruise a year out. We have 6 months to pay off the deposit and our PIF date is in November, we will have 6 months to pay that balance off at 0%.

The main perk of the Disney Card (to me) is you earn rewards towards spending at Disney and Disney Cruises. While some cards give great cash back rates - it seems the days of 5% cash back cards are a thing of the past.
Needless to say, last year I charged 26k on my Disney Visa and earned about $500 in rewards. I just redeemed this onboard the Fantasy. When the cast member went to redeem it he made a noise that caught me off guard. I then asked if it was a lot?, he replied, "its up there". I was shocked by this... but he assured me that he has seen some for more - but $500 was a lot. I guess I am still shocked by this.
Anyways - I use this to spend on Port Adventures, Tips, Merchandise and few fruity drinks along the way. When I got off the ship - I had a charge for $12.70 on my visa - needless to say - makes the rewards worth it. ($200obc +$100TravelAgent + $500Rewards =800Saved)

I'm confused here. I just paid in full and paid everything with my Disney Visa. Cruise sailing is in 2015 and I booked it initially in 2014. Didn't book while on board and not *GTY.

Who do I need to contact about the OBC? Is it DCL? Chase? Did I have to do it when I initially booked the cruise or are we still good because we paid the entire thing on the Disney Visa. I don't care if it's for drinks or general. I just want to get any OBC that may be coming my way.

I have the card and I pay for everything with the card. I get tones of points. I normally use them for food purchases in the parks or apply to my on board account towards the end of a cruise.

You will need to enter the special code when you book to obtain the OBC credit. For example, I booked mine through Costco and placed a deposit using my Disney Visa. I then called Costco and have them manual add the code (they actually called DCL directly while I was on hold).

I have the same question..booked the DVC cruise back in June, getting ready to go in May, and paid then entire thing on my Disney Visa. I know some are saying to call, and some say you had to do it when booking, but I want to try! So do we call DCL or Chase?

I don't know if the Disney Visa OBC offer can be added after PIF, but it's worth asking. You, or your TA if you used one, should contact DCL to ask.

Enjoy your cruise!

We received a $200 gift card when we received our Premier card. (We had to spend $500 in 3 months - that was our deposit for the last cruise) We use our card for everything, and pay it off at the end of the month. We have accumulated a decent amount of credit on card, now my question is ... can we use our "credit/rewards to apply to balance of the cruise that we booked for next year?

Yes, you can pay down your DCL balance with Disney Visa Reward Dollars. You will need to get those Reward Dollars transferred to a Redemption Card. Then you use the Redemption Card to pay for... DCL cruise, WDW vacation, The Disney Store, purchases at WDW, DCL onboard account, etc.

Enjoy your cruise!
