If I plan on using a Disney gift card for only gratuity at a restaurant (DDP), can I present the gift card as payment? Or do I have to charge it to my room and then pay it off with the gift card at the resort?

Yes, you can do either, but it is hard to know what is left on a giftcard if you use it in restaurant. With word here of compromised CCs and giftcrds, I think it is safest to pay with your magicband, and settle your account at night at the hotel. OR you could get Disney Dollars with the giftcard at check in, and use those for tips.

Are they doing away with Disney Dollars soon? I thought I read that was happening over the next few months.

I've heard of people having problems when they buy cards from sites that are not reputable. But I've never heard of a problem with a normal Disney gift card purchased at a local retailer.

If I was to buy Disney gift cards from a reselling site, I would immediately transfer the funds to a Disney Gift Card I bought directly from Disney or a reputable re seller. Takes all of 30 seconds to transfer the balance online, as long as their system isn't acting up.

I would do the magic band and then pay it off when you get back to your room. You don't have to worry about what amount is on the GC and you don't have to worry about loosing the GC in the parks

Without sounding suspicious/paraniod, I was suggesting that someone swiping you giftcard could potentially deduct more than you had intended to leave as a tip....If peopl'es Disney Visas are often having numbers "borrowed," it is possible for gc #s to also be borrowed.

i agree with scanning your magic band then paying the balance off with a gift card.

Several years ago me and my sis in law went to garden grill to eat I was paying the meal with gc but didn't have quite enough to cover the full bill and was paying the rest in cash. well the CM somehow couldn't get it to only take the balance off the giftcard which was like $29 or some odd number. I didn't have anything else on me so sis in law had to pay with her credit card and I gave her the gift card and cash. It was annoying to say the least.
