Using Different Airports for Arrival/Departure

Southwest just released their new flight schedule. As I can't get a conventional roundtrip to work in late August for fare and/or scheduling reasons, I have been pondering a pair of one-way flights to the L.A. area. It would be something like arriving in Burbank and departing Ontario, or possibly Orange County and Ontario. I plan to rent a car and am not sure whether the departure airport would impose a drop charge when I return the car.

Has anyone experienced any problems doing this? I will keep waiting for now and hope that a traditional roundtrip becomes more reasonable, but am not optimistic.

I often book different airports for arrival and departure. It's never a problem. I choose the airport with the lowest airfare.
The car rental for different airport drop-off can be a cost factor. All you can do is search to see what works for you.

I find once I reach DLR, I don't need a car. Plus resort parking can add to the cost of a trip.
Do you need a car for the entire trip? I have flown into BUR or LAX and rented a car for the trip portion before DLR. Once we reach DLR, I return the rental car and taxi to our hotel. Then on departure day take a taxi to SNA or LGB.

The sur-charge for different drop-off can vary for each of the rental car agencies. Check them all out.

I plan to visit both USH and DLR. I'm the kind of person who likes to have a car, even though it might not get used a whole lot. Last year I made side trips to the Santa Monica Pier, Canter's Deli on Fairfax, and the La Cienega neighborhood where I used to live. As it happened, the Super 8 where I stayed had no parking fees. (They have since turned into the independent King's Inn Anaheim.) But yes, the car becomes a bigger problem if both the motel and Disney are dinging me for parking fees. I'll give it some more thought.
