Using DAS when FP line is Closed/Other Guest Comments

I'll be heading to the parks in less than two weeks. I have needed to use a DAS for about the last 10 years at Disneyland and Disney World. This is my first time taking 12 year old niece. She's never experienced a Disney park. I've heard that since there is no FP line right now, that some guests in the stand by line are saying some rude comments when you go through the FP line. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice? I just want to prepare myself in case it happens. Especially in front of my niece.

that line is also used by rider swap and one other group that I forget so DAS is not the only ones there. I would just keep going and not acknowledge that type of comment

The beauty of the fastpass lines not being used for Fastpasses right now, is that you move through them so fast, even if someone starts to say something rude, you are out of earshot before they finish their thought! We felt more “exposed” in August when we went, but instead of having to wait more once we got into the FP line, it was pretty much walk right through once your return time came.

I was really worried about this before we went in November/December, but no one said anything to us. Not even a weird/dirty look from people waiting. We also weren't remotely the only ones using the FP line - I saw lots of other families, probably also DAS-users - especially on popular rides like FOP at AK.

As for advice if someone does say something - ignore them. Or some people may ask genuine questions, like "oh, is there Fastpass again?!" and you can respond with a genuine answer. But again, during our long trip (I think it was 7 park days total), not one person said or did anything weird about us walking in the FP line with our DAS.

I just got back last night and was coming here to start a “warning” thread for people like me. Using the DAS return line felt much different for us this time - more often than not there was no one else anywhere near us using the line so it made us very obvious. I did not hear any comments and no one said anything to us, but we did feel a bit uncomfortable at times. My family just talked to each other and didn’t look at the other line at all. My son and daughter even commented on how “weird” it felt this time versus the past 10 trips when we can just blend in with the fast pass people. Again, no one said anything to us (that we could hear since we zoomed through the line with no one in front of us), it was more of an uncomfortable feeling wondering what people were thinking/saying. Logically I know I shouldn’t care what strangers that don’t know our situation think, but it doesn’t stop the awkward feeling.
The likelihood of someone saying something to you or loud enough for you to hear is low.

Just got back from WDW, and in some places the DAS/FP line is conspicuously close to the regular standby line. While walking through Space Mountain I overheard a young guest in front of me ask his mom "why do those people get to go in the fast line?"

Mom said something along the lines of "Many different people come to Disney and some of them have different needs...isn't it cool that Disney is fun for everyone? Which ride seat do you want- I hope I get the front!"

It is absolutely NOT your job to respond to any questions about why you're in any line, but if a guest (particularly a young one) asks a question out of curiosity, the response above may be helpful.

Hope you have a wonderful trip with your niece!

Surprised you could hear all that while walking by - I've never heard people in the SB queue when we had access to the FP queue, but then the ambient noise/music tends to block voices for me. Are the queues much more quiet now with people spread out? That would be a great thing for me!

this was toward the very end, right before the split-off in the boarding area where you can go either left or right (both sides were operating.) It was the only time in line we really stopped moving for a minute or two. The FP line is separated by a railing. They were about 6 ft distance ahead of me but I could still hear them just fine. ALSO! I found that families would sometimes accidentally "bunch up" when moving up in line before remembering they had to give more room & then they would step back and spread out.

I'm pregnant so I couldn't ride but I stood in line with dh and my BFF because that's my favorite ride queue and I wanted to hear/see the boarding area :earsboy:

That response was perfect though. I do think that if people have been there for a few days, they probably had an experience with a ride breaking down and getting a guest recovery pass, so they may simply figure that is what it is being used for as well.

I love this response and actually made a similar comment to my kids last month when they asked (prior to the trip I made sure the kids knew that FP wasn't an option and we'd be waiting in the regular lines - something they aren't used to LOL). So of course they were curious when they saw people using the FP lines and I had to explain that it's for disability passes, VIP tours, etc. It's too bad that anyone would make a negative comment.
