Using clear jello and suspending glitter throughout it?

Here's my question:

My daughter and I are hosting a table at our church Christmas dinner. She thought about using clear jello and suspending glitter throughout it to place in glass cylinders on the table as part of the decorations.

Does this sound too far-fetched? If not, how could it be done? Thanks!

You could use the edible glitter, and then the centerpiece could be dessert.;)

Do they still make white grape sparkling jello from Jello?

What a neat idea! I bet it would be really eye catching. Please keep us updated if you do find an idea that works.

I didn't know such a thing existed. I'll definitely tell her about it. :thumbsup2

Hmmm, getting better all the time! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the encouragement. I was afraid I might be laughed off the board when I asked, but it did sound like a "different" idea. :)

if you cant find the jello you can get the clear candle gel and add glitter for the same effect and you can add a wick and light it

I did this a couple of years ago for a going away party. I had tall cylinders and vases and put jello in them. The cheapest jello I could find - I just backed off the water a bit so it was really firm. At the party we put the tall pilar candles in them - jammed them into the jello. Held the candles like a champ!

Yes, people still ask about it at work....

The different size and shapes really looked nice around the room. We even put them on the buffet table to dress it up.

I am not sure the if edible glitter would give the same effect that regular glitter because it is so fine. I would go with the regular glitter since it's for decoration.

Hope this helps and good luck on your project!

To the PP with the candles in the Jello..... Didn't the Jello start to get runny with the heat from the candle?

That's what I was thinking. One year as a Girl Scout project, the girls used Valentine Conversation Hearts and then filled in a small candle sized jar with "some sort of white gel" so the candy is suspended in it -- which I'm pretty sure was the clear candle gel.

I thought the idea was neat but a little leery what the candy would end up turning into when we were presented with them but I still have the one DD made and that was many years ago. It does get a little sticky on the top though. I don't think they put a candle wick in it (they might have but no way would I attempt to actually light it!).

I was going to ask something similar. Wouldn't the jello get warm and liquid after a while?

If you want to do it for only decoration purposes, the product you want is Pectin - you will be able to get Fruit Gel Pectin at any large market that has canning supplies.

You can also add scent oils to it. I've made mine own jarred gel air freshners.

No not at all, the Jello wasn't up all that far in the container. If my container were 12 inches tall, I put about 5 inches of Jello to anchor the candle. The taper started outside the glass and as the night progressed did burn down but it did not melt it at all. The only thing we did get was some wax on top of it.

Pectin....oh I love that idea! You could color it any color you would want.

Couldn't you use regular gelatin?? Isn't there something like that out there?

I just cleaned out a cabinet, and found boxes of gelatin. Every time my kids had to make a cell for a science project, they used gelatin in a ziploc, and I guess I had forgetten I had some.

Thanks, I'll check on that!

That could work too. She's planning on doing assorted sized candles for the table. :)

NEXT QUESTION: How do we suspend the glitter in the mixture? Do you mix it up? I've heard of putting objects in by doing a layer at a time, but we want the glitter to be evenly distributed througout the mixture. Please understand that I have ZERO creative skills so I know nothing about this! :rotfl2:
