Has anyone used a child's AP to get the rate on a room?

I am waiting for DC and codes for Jan but if a better AP rate came out I am thinking it would be worth buying one AP to get the rates. Cheapest option is to buy one for my 9 year old son.

Would love to hear if anyone has done this? Would it be OK?

We already have our tickets booked with out travel agent (special offer for 10 day tickets as we are from the UK) but I could cancel my son's if necessary.

Thanks in advance :D

I beleive to get an AP rate you must use an adult AP.

hhmmm. But if you're 9 years old, you have to have a Adult's AP don't you?

Yes my daughter booked her room with her son's AP when he was only 5 and using a child's AP. There was no problem and she told CRO when she made the ressie. My grandson has an AP because he goes with us to WDW sometimes and needs the flexibility. That was 4 years ago, so all you can do is call CRO and ask. I personnally would call about 2 or 3 times, because you usually get a different answer each time. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to call the AP hotline too and ask. I would have a real issue with this because if I paid adult prices for an AP for my child, I dare them to discriminate against them because of their age. As for the AP holder having to make the ressies. I was told that as long as one person in your party has the AP you quality. My husband is a CM and we get a CM rate, but the ressies are always in my name since I make them. Never been a problem after 25 visits yet. However, rules change, so it never hurts to ask.

407-560-PASS--I have read here on the boards that you have to be 18 or older just to reserve a hotel room, so I don't know how a 5 year old can book a room even with an AP. (no offense please) I don't think it has anything to do with discrimination, it's just the laws of how old one has to be to book a hotel room.

But, I'd double check with WDW. Hopefully they'll know what they're talking about:)

FYI:

This probably will surprise a lot of people but the "AP Hotline" is answered by CRO. There's no magical AP department at Disney.

We used a child's AP to book our rooms at the Poly a couple of weeks ago and had no problems. After checking the rates, it was worth it for us to purchase an AP to get a better rate. We bought a child's AP and used that. The CRO said they could do it when we made the reservations (we bought the AP after we made the reservation). If they say you can't, hang up, call again and try a different CRO. Ours was very helpful.
