Question on borrowed points. Lets say I borrow 50 points. When added to my 200 point allotment, I have a total of 250 points.

Now My stay will cost me 200 points. Can I use 150 from my allotment and the 50 borrowed points and bank the other 50 from my allotment?

Thanks!

You can do that, but I'm not entirely sure why you would. Let's put year numbers on this and you'll understand why.

So, hypothetically, you borrow 50 points from 2010 into 2009. Those 50 2010 points can exist as borrowed points in 2009, current points in 2010, or banked points in 2011. So then you borrow them into 2009 and that's final. They can only be used in 2009. Then, you want to take 2009 points, which can only exist in 2008, 2009, or 2010 and bank them to 2010, which is also final. You're better off, in this scenario, leaving each set of 50 points in its original UY, where they can still be played forward if necessary.

You can only borrow when making a reservation. Unless there is some strong reason why you want to borrow points instead of just using the current points, I would not suggest borrowing 50 and then banking 50. Should you later need to cancel the reservation, the borrowed points would still need to be used before the end of the use year of the reservation and they could not be banked. I'd just use the 200 current points and leave the other 50 in their original Use Year to be used (or banked) next year.

Enjoy! :)

Here is the example, in 2010 we are looking to travel with a large crowd, so I wanted to use my allotment and borrow from 2011 to stay at BLT my home which I can book 11 months out.

However, if I can get AKV at 7 months out, I would prefer that and cancel my BLT ressie and stay with AKV by using the 2011 borrow and the difference in 2010 points and bank to remaninder of 2010 into 2011.

This allows me to hedge on my ressie in the event that I can not get an AKV at 7 months thus falling back on my BLT ressie.

Sorry this stilldoesn't make sense to me.

You make the BLT reservation at 11 months. You would only borrow if you do not have enough points in the current use year to make the reservation.

At 7 months, you cancel the BLT reservation (points all go back into your account) and make the AKV reservation assuming there is availability at AKV.

If you had to use borrowed points to make the original BLT reservation, MS should use those for the AKV reservation before dipping into the current use year points. You would be allowed to bank the unneeded current use year points as long as your banking deadline wasn't past.

For the example you give, I can't see any reason to leave current use year points unused while borrowing to make the original reservation. In fact, I do not think MS will even allow it.

I think that's exactly what the OP is saying and asking about.

That initially they would need to borrow some in order to make the BLT reservation. But if they can get AKV, then they would cancel that, and then they'd have the 50 unneeded points. So they then asked if those 50 would be used first, and THEN go into the other points.

When you make your ressie at BLT at 11 months, MS will use current UY and borrow points if needed.

At 7 months, if the AKV ressie is less points, they will use the borrowed points first (you must remind them that this is what you want) and then fill in with the BLT current UY points. You can than bank any of the current UY points that are left over, providing that you are still within your banking window when you make the switch in your reservation.
