Using Banked Points

Even though I've been a DVC owner for about 8 years I still get confused with the whole use of banked points issue. I have 145 points left from my Dec 2015 use year. I have to Bank the points by July 31st, 2016 or lose them. My question is ..... if I bank the points now when can I use them to book a reservation ?? Will I be able to use them in August or September to book a trip for next May ??

Once you bank them they "look' like 2016 points. Useable for reservations from Dec 1, 2016 through Nov 30, 2017. They cannot be banked again, they cannot be brought bank to 2016 points. As any other points you can book HOME resorts at 11 months ahead, or non home resorts at 7 months.

Points need to be available for the dates of your stay, not the date that you make the reservation.

You need to separate the concept of when you can book from your use year. Your use year has no bearing on when you can book. While points are allocated when you book, they are "used" the day you arrive. Your use year dictates which points are available for your stay, but has nothing to do with when you can book the reservation.

Similar but different question (I think).
I have a March UY. I made a reservation for March '17 already. In the system it currently shows the '17 UY reduced by the amount for the March '17 reservation. We will be banking some of '16 UY eventually, enough to cover the March trip. When we take our March '17 trip which points get used...'17 UY or '16 banked?

You should have banked the points you will not use before you made a reservation. Now you will either have to call MS after you bank to have them reallocate the points (good luck, keep and eye on what they do) or just cancel the reservation and rebook using the banked points first.

Points are allocated when you book. You can call after you bank the points and see if they'll reallocate them for your.

Can you bank multiple times? In other words, can I bank 60 points now and then bank whatever remains in the UY at the final banking date. Or are you only allowed to bank once for each UY? I understand that once they are banked that's it. No borrowing or banking on those points.

Yes, you can bank multiple times - as long as you aren't past the banking deadline for the use year.
