using banked/new points

Hi all... We just closed on a 300 point BCV resale and are officially in the system...yippppeeeee..home sweet home! i just have a question that has been bugging me. The contract we bought had 150 banked points, 271 2008 points , all points comming in 2009. My question is why/how would points be missing from 2008 if the previous owner had 150 banked points? when they booked wouldn't the banked points be used up before they dipped into 2008 or when i make a ressie do i have to say where i want the points to come from? hope i explined the question right...and thanks for letting me use your knowledge!!

Welcome Home! A cancelled reservation could do it. They could have made a reservation, then banked extra points, then cancelled.

Or they could have banked the points, then decided to stay at a DVC resort, which would have required them to borrow 2008 points for that stay.

You should keep track of your own points and say where you want them to come from. Banked or borrowed points should be used first and MS should do this for you but I have found that it doesn't always happen that way.
