Using AP and Park Hopper on same stay

I'll be traveling to WDW for a three day trip in January. The first day of my trip will also be the last day of the current AP. I'm planning to buy a park hopper for the remaining days of my trip.

I'd like to buy my park hopper now, so I can work on reserving FPs for me and DH, but I'm wondering, how will this work with my AP also being on my account? I'm worried that when I go to scan my MagicBand on the first day of my trip, that a day will be deducted from my park hopper rather than the last day of my AP being used.

Does anyone know of a way to deal with this? Will the system recognize that my park hopper on the same Magic Band/MDE account should not start until after my AP expires? Help!

Can't you carry the actual AP with you and scan that at the turnstile on your way in (instead of using the magic band)?

No way would I trust the band to just get it right.

You can also have Guest Relations check and make sure your ticket priority is set the way you want it if you can't find the card.

Even if you scan just the AP card, I would probably check with the main gate CM. Both are linked to your MDE account and your ticket is really just a record in that account. I think you'll be okay but I would ask.

Guest Relations can "prioritize" your tickets before you enter the park. Stop at the booth if you're worried about it.

Scanning a different card doesn't really work. Once a ticket is linked to your MDE, the card works exactly the same as a band; it's just a link to your account, not to a specific ticket.

Yes, in your case I would make sure to stop by GS to make sure the correct entitlement is used on that first day. One trip, I had both a four day ticket and a one day ticket - and the one day ticket was incorrectly prioritized. I was lucky I happened to stop by GS that morning.

Also, I'm no expert on this, but you also could run into a problem trying to prebook your FP's. The FP reservation system will probably only 'see' one ticket at a time, especially if your whole party is in the same situation.

I'd simply make your last park day an Epcot day. (or maybe AK or HS, just not MK)

Take it from someone who learned the hard way. STOP AT GUEST RELATIONS TO GET TICKETS PRIORITIZED!

I 100% agree with @jekjones1558!!!! Take the 10 minutes at Guest Relations and prioritize to save the headache and potentially hours or days and phone calls and emails you will have to spend trying to get it fixed. I obviously had an issue after being given incorrect information (shocker) that I believed...in it the end it was fixed but it was a process. I still have multiple tickets in my account so I make the stop each time just to be safe.

Pre-booking FP+ won't be an issue as long as you have enough tickets attached to ME to cover the days you want to make FP+ for.

Agree with others, though, you HAVE to stop at GS to get tickets prioritized before you enter your first park.

Stopping by GS is a must, but I disagree that it will only take ten minutes. My early morning stops to GS always take longer. Maybe you will get lucky, I just wouldn't COUNT on it only taking ten minutes, especially if your visit is very near one of the Jan holidays (NYD, MLK Jr).
