DD is coming home from college for the weekend and wants to get her hair cut. I am in desperate need for a cut and highlights myself. Saturday is our only day to get things done. I don't have time during the week to squeeze an appointment in for myself. Problem is, we always go to this one hairdresser at the salon. I just called, she's booked, but they suggested other stylist that cuts similar in style. We took the appointments. Is this a no-no or do you feel any guilt going to another hairdresser in the same salon?
Am I going to have to do the walk of shame when I go to sit in another stylist's chair?

She was booked. She can't get mad at you. You may want to stop by her station to say "Hi, I tried to get in with you, but you were booked. See you next time!" Ooooh, but then what happens if you like the new person better? :rolleyes1

That's exactly what I would do too.

Honestly, don't worry about it.

Not at all. In fact, I always have 2 stylists in case someone leaves or isn't available.

That's not a bad idea. I'm so used to going to the same girl and I know she needs the business. I just don't want to offend - it's all about the timing of it all.

This happened to me. From then on I just booked with the new stylist on my old stylist's day off. The new stylist "got" how to handle my curly, unruly hair and the first one said she was fine with that, but I felt uncomfortable, so just avoided having to say anything more.

I had to do this last fall when my stylist was off and I really needed a Friday appt. Unfortunately the stylist they put me with was new and did a terrible highlight job (looked good until I got home and they looked orange in my lighting). It was very awkward because the new stylist called to see how I like my highlights and if I wanted to purchase any products for my hair. I admitted to her the highlights were "a little brassy" and tried not to make a fuss. I had actually "fixed" the highlights myself with a store bought highlight kit and that really helped. Luckily I never see that stylist when I go in to see mine. I really like the girl who does mine, and she even does all my kids hair. She is wonderful and the price can't be beat!

This happened to me about a year ago, I ended up making an apointment with the owner of the salon because she was available. I have never gone back to my old stylist, mainly due to her lack of availability, I need after work apts and she only works one night a week. I do feel bad from time to time when I see her there, like I have broken some unwritten rule. I am sure it wasn't the first time it has happened an won't be the last either though!

This reminds me of the Seinfeld where he's dating one girl but wants to break up with her and date her roommate!

I have never had the guts to change to a different stylist in the same salon, but in your circumstances I'd say go for it!

I've done it many times...in fact, they suggest it if you really need an appt and your regular is booked. I think they are glad you are keeping your $$ in the salon instead of going elsewhere. :)

I'm sure that's what the salon is thinking, not sure if the stylist will feel the same way.

I'll stay strong...march in there, say hi, tell her the truth when I see her, hope she believes it (I always sound guilty in situations like this), and hope for the best. She's actually pretty nice and I'm sure I'm not the first one in this situation. Still will feel a bit uncomfortable...
