I went to buy a $10 item this morning, had it in my cart and tried using my $6 ebay gift card to pay for most of it. It kept giving me an error (try back later). I waited a half hour and still got the same message, so I contacted them to see if it was them or me. They told me to go to www.ebay.ca and buy it there, gave me some reference number so I had the same seller. I clicked "purchase" as instructed, but when I entered the gift card it said I could not use a US gift card on their site. I told the guy, "great, now I'm not able to use the gift card at all", and he assured me he would cancel the transaction and would call me back when they figured out why I couldn't use the gc.
Five hours later - not only have they not called me back, the item is waiting for payment. I called them again, and this time I was told there was no way for them to cancel the transaction and that I would have to contact the seller and ask them if he would allow it. I told them this was on ebay, I only followed instructions and would not have bought from a .ca address, but they were VERY unapologetic about the whole thing. I know I could have just paid the $10 and left the $6 for later, but it was a matter of principle with me.
They also informed me the gift card payment is an issue and their IT department is working on it. Has anyone else tried using an ebay gift card today?
