?? using AmEx Rewards Certificate for Avis Rental

I have a question, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I have a 7-day reservation booked with Avis in mid-April. I plan on paying for the reservation with a $200 AmEx Membership Rewards certificate I have. My rate is currently about $248 for a full size car for that time.

I booked the reservation using the codes that AmEx said to use. I think I could get a better rate by combining codes from MouseSavers. I'd like to get my out-of-pocket expenses down if I could. My question - have you ever booked a reservation with Avis using codes other than AmEx, and then paid with a MR certificate? I know I used to be able to do this with National, but they are no longer members of the MR program - bummer.

Any help/experience would be appreciated!

We have used an AmEx MR certificate in the past but reserved it through the number on the certificate. The rate was slightly higher than one with the discount codes but I was afraid to try it. You might find your answer at www.flyertalk.com and scroll down to the Rental Car section. Look for your rental car company and scroll through the forum. If your answer isn't there, go ahead and post. These are folks who travel all the time for their job and someone there will surely know the answer. Good luck!
