Using amenities at HH?

I have to travel to Hilton Head for business. Can I use the HH amenities as a DVC member even if I'm not staying on property?

You can visit the resort to shop and dine, but most other amenities are for registered resort guests only.

Tried that last year when we couldn't get in, but went to HH anyway and stayed elsewhere. We weren't allowed to use amenities.
