Using aaa to book your cruise?

Can anyone tell me if there is a perk for using aaa. I know they used to give you the cup for unlimited soda's but now that they are free on deck 9, I was wondering if they do something else instead. Thank you .

We had our cruise already with AAA when they instituted the soda deal.

To make up for it, they gave us $150 per room (on a 7-day) credit.

Since we have two rooms, that equals $300.

We couldn't drink that much soda in a year!

I don't know if that is the current promotion, but it was the substitution.

We always use AAA also, and they are now doing the $150 shipboard credit per room---- also, they always give us some gift in the room. Sometimes it is a basket of snacks and drinks, a picture frame, photo album or something. That way, we not only get the castaway cay club repeat cruiser gift, but also the item from AAA.

I can't answer that, but I do know that the stateroom credit you get also depends on the category of room you book. When we went, we got a $150 credit for our category 6 room. DD and family were across the hall in a category 11, and they got $75.

Dreams unilimited price was so much better than AAA that no perk was worth going with them.

We just did a 4-night cruise booked through AAA and got a $50 shipboard credit. We were in a Cat. 4 room.

we booked 3 rooms, on the cat 6 they gave us 50.00 and the cat 11's 25.00 each room. this is for the 4 day cruise.

We booked through AAA for our 10 day Christmas we just returned from. We received a $75 ship credit due to the sodas now included. The higher the catagory, the more ship credit you receievd. We just rebooked for the 10 day Christmas in 2006 and we found AAA would give us no better discount then booking directly through DCL. You won't receive the greastest discounts due to this being a holiday cruise. DCL wasn't giving the 10% discount while booking onboad due to this being a holiday. We were able to get a $600 savings by going through Costco Travel. They beat out Cruise Planners and Cruisequick.

Our AAA agent couldn't believe the price we got from All Seasons Travel, so much so she questioned their legitimacy. And AAA couldn't match the price, which they will sometimes do. But I had done all my homework on All Seasons and was satisfied that they were a reputable travel agency.

I went thru AAA for our 1st DCL cruise and booked on my own the last three DCL cruises. I would NEVER go thru AAA again, regardless of the discount. It was a nightmare. You have no control over times of your connecting flights, you can't necessarily choose what airport you fly out of, and you have to go thru your TA for all questions, requests. It was ridiculous, and the AAA TA I used was supposedly a DCL expert.

Just to clarify for jweiss-when booking air directly thru the cruiseline, AAA or any other agency for that matter, has no control over the flights. You can pay an air deviation fee which is $50.00 per person AND you also have to pay the difference between the flights that are chosen and the flights that you would be booked on if applicable. This could or could not cost you alot of extra money. With this option, you can choose which airline or flights you would like.

Again, this has nothing to do with AAA.

And to answer the question regarding combining shipboard credit, for the most part you can. There are circumstances, I'm sure, in which credits cannot be combined but they are few and far between.

I myself, have combined both a rebooking discount w/ the AAA discount without a problem.

Unless a TA is offering a cruise @ a group rate or if the TA is taking off a large chunk of the commission, the rates should be around the same.

I booked our first with AAA. The gift is dependent on your local office. Ours did nothing beyond the standard AAA perks, so we got the soda mugs (it was 2002), and a $100 credit. You also get a discount for floats and stuff on CC.

Our local office required us to pick up our docs from them directly, instead of shipping them to our house. Not normally a big deal, but our "local" office is more than two hours away from us, so it was a huge hassle. I booked 2nd cruise direct with DCL, and 3rd cruise through DU.

If you get a good deal with AAA, and they're convenient for you, by all means take it. But be sure to research your options, don't just assume they're the best deal around.

We booked onboard for an upcoming 2005 cruise and received the 10% discount and $200 shipboard credit. Just this past week I transferred the reservation to AAA and received $150.00 on board credit from them. My TA couldn't beat the quote I got for the cruise when I booked on the ship, but I thought it was worth transferring our reservation for the $150. It's nice knowing we have $350 shipboard credit waiting for us when we board the ship. Also, we get 10% off at Treasure Ketch (as long as it's over $75) and 10% off at C.C. on floats and snorkel equipement.

One more thing, the on board credit depends on your catagory. We are in a catagory 5. Hope this helps.

Got a twist for you AAA folks--what if you DON'T book through AAA? Do you still get the 10% discounts at TK and CC?

Dcanoli - I don't think you get the discounts. On our last trip, I booked through AAA and my friend booked through a different local TA. I had the discount; she didn't. Just one catch. When I got my statement of charges on the ship, my discount was not applied. I had to go to guest services and have it fixed. It wasn't a big deal, but because it was towards the end of the trip, the line was long.
