Using a TA after OBB

Can I still use a travel agent even though I missed my 30 day window to get one after I paid my OBB? I understand that I won't be able to get the on board credit from DU. Will I still get my perks from my OBB even if I use the TA without getting their reward? Sorry if that didn't make much sense.

I guess I'm asking if I should just book this cruise on my own through Disney or use a TA as long as I still get the perks.

Once you have passed the 30-day window to transfer a reservation to a TA, you cannot use a TA for that reservation. So to keep your OBB perks you will need to book direct with DCL.

Enjoy your cruise!

If you want BOTH perks, you can do that! You just have to transfer to a TA within 30 days. That would allow you to keep the DCL OBB credits and whatever the TA allows. If it's past 30 days (which it sounds like it is), no transfer can be done.

There are many TAs that cut the amount of OBC they give on a transferred reservation. If you want the full TA OBC, you have to go through the TA to make the reservation.

Yes, due to how much Disney pays in commission to TA for bookings made onboard, many or most travel agents give much less OBC than they would otherwise for a booking made through them. Of course, you do get a 10% discount on the booking.

However, if you are booking a cruise that sails during a block out period (usually holidays and other select dates), you do not get the 10% discount, and the full OBC a TA gives might be greater than what you would get from Disney ($100 or $200) and the reduced amount of OBC a TA will give. Of course, you might qualify for a lower deposit with an onboard booking if you take a longer cruise.

The exception to this is a TA like Costco that does not give OBC anyway, but gives you a Costco GC that is almost equivalent to the best OBC you can usually get booking directly through a TA. Combine that with an onboard booking and you can potentially max your savings, and this is before using a vacation account or discounted gift cards, etc...

Best bet is for future reference. Use a TA like Costco and get the best of both worlds. The OBB discount and also the nice Costco cash card at the end of the cruise is very nice!

Like above poster said. If you want to sail during an OBB blackout. Book with Costco, get the cash card after cruise and I will add. While on that cruise. Make an OBB.

Depending on length of future cruise. The shipboard credit is 100-200 on OBB. That applies even on blackout sailing.
