Using a prepaid CC for dining

I just came across this idea a while ago, as I'm stressing over the DDP way too much, and if we can eat it all, if we're getting the best deal etc....I just need to CHILL!

Anyway, for our family of four, the deluxe plan would be $1674 for a nine night stay. We would prefer something inbetween the regular (which is not nearly enough) and the deluxe (which seems like way too much) but it's not offered.

So, who has just taken that money and put it on a prepaid credit card and used that as all of your dining "cash" for your vacation?

This idea sounds perfect for us because then we're not locked in to ordering "1 app, 1 meal, 1 dessert" or whatever plan we would end up getting. And any leftover $$ can just be used for other things. This seems brilliant!

I haven't done it, but was actually going to do this next time. I've only done the QSDP and liked it, but I'm sure changes are coming in 2011 to either the plan itself and more than likely the price. Also, we may stay at Swan/Dolphin next time (not eligible for DP). I figured if the QSDP cost us $588 for 7 nights, then I was going to put $700 on a Disney gift card. Well, I paid OOP for a couple of TS meals, as well, so I could factor in that cost on the card, too.

So, I agree with you -- briliant idea. :thumbsup2

It's a great idea and if you don't use all the money in the card you don't necessarily have to spend it at Disney, but you have the option of using it, as you said, for other things there. Or you could keep it as your Disney "Dining" card for future trips and top it up whenever you have any cash to spare. I can't find fault with your idea. :thumbsup2

I'm glad to hear that it may work! Yippee!

I was just so stressed out about sticking with the "1 app, 1 entree, 1 desssert" thing. Many of the signature dining places I would just prefer to order 2-3 apps, not to save money, just to sample more of what the restaurant has to offer.

Also, I was so worried that my adventerous toddlers would be stuck to mac & cheese and chicken nuggets for the whole vacation.

Thanks!!

You could also put the money on your room account, use your room key to purchase the food (and other things) if you dont want to have to carry two cards around. We did that last trip and it was SOOOOO convenient!
