Do any of you use BIRTHDAY coupons at the popular food chain places like Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse, Bone Fish Grill, ect. when it is not your birthday? I have noticed if you sign up with an email address at many places like this, they will send you a coupon for something for your birthday.

I am thinking it may be wrong to do this, or am I wrong and it just does'nt matter? I have found that you can get a something at IHOP just for joining their club and I was wondering if you had any other suggestions of places where you could do the same, without it being your birthday.

When we took DH to Tobey Keiths for his birthday dinner they asked to see his license and I believed they showed it to the manager. They do however give a steak and desert so it is a big discount.

My girls have signed up for Starbucks they give you a little flexibility on the date you can use it.

One place that I get a birthday coupon to expires about a month after my birthday, so I think it depends on the terms of the offer given. As long as you aren't violating the terms, then who cares.

Ditto.

I just got my free Birthday cupcake from Gigi's last week, a full month after my birthday -- but apparently I had until August 1st to use it.

What I would not do, is sign up with 11 fake email addresses and 11 fake birthdays so I could get a free cupcake every month. Not only would I feel wrong, but I'm sure the staff would catch on after awhile ;)

This. You have to look at the coupon and see what it says. Most places realize that you might not be able to make it on the actual date of your birthday, so they give you a date range ("during the month of your birthday" or by XX/XX/XXXX whatever expiration is on the coupon). If you are going on a date that its acceptable by the coupon without it be your actual birthday, there's no problem, so no need to think there's something 'wrong' with it.

One of our local restaurants (sadly it's now closed because of flood damage from Hurricaine Irene) used to do 'get a free meal on your birthday'. Any meal you wanted...I got surf & turf :thumbsup2 you just had to show your license to get it. They were always closed on Monday. One year my husband's birthday was on a Monday, we asked on Sunday if he could get his free meal because they'd be closed ON his birthday, but they said no, tough luck. Oh well. So it totally depends on the restaurant, as long as you go by their rules, there's no need to feel like you are doing something wrong.

With my Starbucks registered card, I get a free drink on my birthday and am usually given a few weeks to use it; don't have to show any proof though that my birthday is when I say it is.

The only time I've tried to get a free meal in a restaurant was at Denny's for breakfast about 3yrs ago; I had to show my drivers licence to prove it was my birthday that day. My husband is on the mailing list for a local burger joint here called Veras Burgers, he gets an email close to his birthday with a 'coupon' that he has to print out and take in on his birthday to claim his free meal (don't think he has to show any more proof).

If it wasn't my birthday I'd feel wrong using a perk like this, IMO that's kind of tacky.

No I would not do it because IMO it is the same as stealing. Sure... sign up and go on your day otherwise no! Some places, including Red Robin and Bandidos make you show an ID before they comp your meal.

It IS wrong. It is dishonest. And it DOES MATTER. Because when people scam the system, then perks like those quickly go away. Some companies will give you a little leeway regarding the amount of time before or after your birthday for when the coupon is valid. Others will only honor the perk on your birthday itself. To sign up using a bogus birthdate in order to take advantage of a perk is dishonest.

It depends, if it is a coupon for a meal ON your birthday then I wouldn't use it on a different day. If it is a coupon FOR your birthday for use by a certain date then I see nothing wrong with that.

Many are good for the month of your birthday. Nothing wrong with using them within the valid time frame.

Generally speaking, food chains that send an email with a printed coupon will have an expiration date on them. If it's a local eatery that say "Free meal ON your birthday" would equate to eating there the day of. Panera Bread gave me a month to use my coupon for the free pastry, but most fall within a 2 week range of your birthday.

Use it any time before it expires, unless a manager gives you permission. My aunt was in rehab after her knee surgery on her birthday. One restaurant was fine with honoring the free birthday meal for her about a week after the expiration.

As long as you follow the coupon rules, I don't see any issue. If they allow you to use it a month after your b-day then do it. I'm sure you are not asking about fake b-days.

If the restaurant requires you to use it ON your birthday they will generally ask to see a photo ID. If you sign up and they give you a coupon to use FOR your birthday, I see no reason to not use it.

Now if you are signing up & lying about your birthday just so you can get the freebie that is wrong.

the only restaurant that requires I use the free birthday meal ON my birthday is Denny's, it's a free Grand Slam, I use it when I can but don't stress over it. All other birthday clubs/discounts I am offered are valid for a longer time period so I use it within the period it is valid.
