Using 11 month window and 7 month window for one stay

Ok, I am considering adding on at HHI. If I buy a small amount of points, enough for a few days of a summer stay, how difficult would it be for me to add on an additional 2-3 days to that reservation using one of my other contracts once the seven month window opens? For example, if I had 6/18-6/21 booked at the 11 month window, could I call MS on 11/18 and add on days to my reservation or would I need to wait until 11/22 to add the days?

You need to wait until 11/22. You can book online and later have MS modify the reservations into one.

Thanks. So, I need to get a contract that has closer to what I need per year if we would like to go every year. The one I'm looking at is too small. I'd hate to book three days and then get shut out for the remaining two days at the seven month mark

I've heard the opposite; that you can add on with seven-month points as long as the start of the reservation is in the window, even if it was book with the home resort advantage. I don't have any experience, but I've seen it reported here in the past.

But the reservation start date for a 7 month booking is on 11/22. Letting the OP book earlier is unfair to other 7 month bookers.

I don't disagree that it would be unfair, but I'm under the impression it's similar to walking a reservation. You've got a headstart becaues of the existing reservation. Like I said, I've seen it posted, but I don't have any direct experience.

My understanding is what disneynutz said, in that you need to wait until 7 months out from the add-on dates. In any event, you should not assume it will be easy to get the extra days even if you could add them as soon as you are 7 monthis out from original arrival date. Summer is HH's high demand season and you have a real risk of those extra days being gone well before 7 months out.

After years of DVC membership and spending all of our vacations at Disney the only thing consistent is their lack of consistency. Often the CM's do not follow policy sometimes to our benefit, sometimes not.

I feel it's best to make sure to purchase enough points to cover the vacation duration and room type we want, that way we are able to get what we want. Thanks for all of the input. I can always get my answers here.

Sounds like a plan!

The 7 month mark doesn't change just because you already have a reservation using home resort advantage. If a CM booked a reservation differently that was an error. And why MS system didn't prevent the CM from making that reservation before the 7 month mark is beyond me. That is poor programming--surprise there.

As I noted the rule as I understand it is you cannot rerserve with 7 month points until 7 months out from the add on dates. However, there is an exception to that and as I now recall I actually had that exception once at AKV. If the room you want is separately available for the entire time of your trip at 7 months out from your original arrival date, you can do the add on because it would be the same thing as cancelling the prior reservation and making a new one at 7 months out from your original arrival date. The total trip period cannot exceed 7 nights in that situation.

If I was able to use that exception, I could still be shut out from adding on days at seven months, or no, since I have that room locked for some days already?

I called MS to see what their response would be. I gave a hypothetical reservation of March 20-25 was booked at 11 months. I asked when I could call to add on two more days. The response from MS was that I can call on August 20 to add two more days using seven month points. She said this is only possible if you don't already have 7 nights booked.

I would still be concerned that I could somehow be shut out of adding on the additional days though, which is the benefit of having the eleven month advantage.
