Used chat for a room request.

Interesting... why is that? I get why they would want to do it, in the spirit of doing everything they can to make the stay "magical". But in today's society rife with entitlement, I can see why it would be problematic as well.
You should have been around when Boardwalk View was simply a request, not a bookable category, at BWV. Legendary for meltdowns by adults who should have known better. I don't remember how many years it was before they split Preferred booking category into BW View and Pool/Garden View, but I'm sure the front desk CMs were significantly relieved when they did.

I just wish it was based on first available vs requests. I just have seen way too many people complaining at the resort..and elsewhere.. even with the “it’s not guaranteed “.

I can definitely see where the request system can lead to complaints from some, or at least unnecessary disappointment.

Oh man, I can imagine that was a sight to behold. We generally don't care about view at WDW, but do request things like close to elevators or certain areas of the building. Sometimes we get it, sometimes not. I certainly won't be berating any cast members about it. I've seen some truly shocking behavior by adults, as I'm sure we all have. Very sad.

I can imagine. I believe they used to have a similar situation at OKW until they created the 'near hospitality house' booking category.

Last year, I was checking in and a DVC owner was next to me pulling the entire "Do you realize how much money I have spent for this and that alone should entitle me to have the area of the resort that we requested." He went on to share how much money he had as well.....

It made me sad that someone really believes that they are that special that no one else matters.

See that's why I wouldn't last a day as a CM in any kind of customer service role. I couldn't smile and play along with those kinds of people, I'd be inclined to tell him what he could do with his wads of money >:(

I may or may not have gotten in some big trouble when I was young and a complaint clerk for our city...needless to say, I went in to teaching and worked with 5 - 7 year olds...much nicer!!! LOL

That horrible 🫤
I don’t understand people sometimes….

I’m going to try the chat next time. I‘ve been using Touringplans (with variable success in the past), but the last few trips I’ve received nothing near my request at any of the resorts I’ve stayed in. All I really want is not first floor and yet despite requesting a high floor, I always seem to be placed on the first floor.

I think for the most part, room requests being granted is very hit-and-miss. I think when the request is important to us, what we have found improves our chances (and never guarantees them!) is to put the request on the reservation, and then head to the front desk as early as we can on check-in day to discuss on the location of the room. They might have a chance to adjust it if the original request wasn't met. They won't tell you the room you've been assigned, but they can tell you if it's a high floor or first floor or near elevator/far from elevator etc. A few times we were able to move to a room location we liked better, via the CM at the front desk.

I used the chat feature to make a room request. Then I thought how do you know if they really added it 😂 lol? I guess if I get my request. 🤷🏼‍♀️
We have had really good luck with requests. We used the chat feature last year and we got our request. I think it’s safe for you to assume that the request was submitted. Getting the request is a different story.

I want to request a refurbished room on the 4 or 5 th floor. Since those are the only one’s currently done.
MDE only has one choice - near elevator
We usually call DVC for our requests, but we used chat last year. For our Aulani trip this year my wife called and we got exactly what we asked for. I am a fan of actually speaking with another human 😆

Entitlement is real. We just got back from Aulani and I witnessed full grown adults melting down and having full blown tantrums over pool chairs. I can only imagine what people like that would do over not getting a room they thought they “deserved”. We request room locations on just about every trip, but I also don’t make a peep when the request isn’t granted. It was a request, after all. Either way, the trip will be great!!

I have a trip planned for August. Is it too early to make a request?

We are staying at BLT and I think we would like to be on the same floor as the connection to the Contemporary.

We usually make ours about 30 days prior to check-in.

Yes - likewise at SSR when Congress Park was a request and not preferred. We were fortunate to get CP a couple times, and it felt "special". Now, we don't want to use the extra points. :D

Not too early. I usually make mine right after we book, at the 11Mo. mark.
On our last 2 stays at AKV we got our exact room. We jokingly refer to it as "ours", but we know that it's not guaranteed on the next trip. The one time we took our entire family and requested a 3BR-GV at SSR, we were stranded out at the carousel, having requested the Paddock, near the kids pool. Every other trip we were close to our request, so you gotta appreciate the irony. We have never melted down over an unfulfilled request, but we have been gushing with excitement when our exact request is achieved.

Not too early to make a request! The notes should just be sitting in the reservation.

Though I would love to know what the "room assigners" actually see when there are notes on a reservation. Any cast members of the that know?

I was told that rooms start getting assigned roughly a month prior to check-in. A cast member told me the best time to send in a room assignment request is right about that time, because they can assign your requested room to you right then. You can send your request in at any point after the reservation is made, but if you send it in really early then it stands a chance of getting lost in the shuffle. We have had really good luck with our requests and we always send them in about a month before check in.
