Use Year???

Still researching and waiting for October but I have another question. How important is Use Year? If we buy in October, but travel usually durning the summer, what should we pick? Theoretically, if we purchase in October, and pick use year of May...would we not have access to any points until May 09? Would we get all the points in October and more in May 09? Just confused Thanks, Cindy

If you are traveling in the summer I would look for a springtime Use Year. Use Year really isn't that important, except when it comes to canceling a reservation. For example, with an October UY, if you have a trip booked in July and have to cancel for some reason you will not be able to bank those points into the next year. They will have to be used by 9/30. With the same situation and a spring UY you will have plenty of time to use those points before they expire or bank them into the next year. The May UY you mention would be perfect for you.

If you are buying from Disney you may get '08 points with your contract. You'll have to ask your rep. If not then you will get your first points on 5/1/09 but you could borrow them to use now, if you wish.

The easiest way to pick a UY is to pick a month just prior to the start of your preferred vacation window.

We like the cooler months so we have a Oct UY and vacation starting in Nov.

There is no waiting for points availability, all points use is based on date of stay. If I look at my account online right now, with an April use year they are showing points balance up to the April 2011 use year. I could book a stay now for July 2009 (home resort), which would be in my 2009 use year and I could also borrow 2010.
