Use of DVC points

I am interested in purchasing DVC points. I would to know if the points I purchase can be used at any Vacation Club Resort or only in the Home resort you have. If they can be used in other resorts how hard is it to book that resort.

You can book your home resort at 11 months and all others at 7 months. Some resorts are harder than others to get at 7 months. Some times of the year are harder than others.

I get the impression from your post that you are asking about renting a stay at a DVC resort from a DVC member. If so, you do not actually purchase points from a member. They would be of no use to you as a non-member. We call it "renting points" but it is really renting a reservation from a DVC member that they make using their points and then you pay them so much per point for the points they have used to make that reservation for you.

As DisDadDVC stated, if a reservation is made more than 7 months from check-in, only points from that resort can be used to pay for the reservation. If a reservation is made at 7 months or less from check-in, any points can be used to book any resort, subject to availability. Some room types at certain resorts are not usually available 7 months from check-in because they are already booked by that time. For those particular rooms, you would need to rent a reservation from a DVC member who owns the resort you are considering so that they can make the reservation 11 months from check-in, or at least prior to the 7-month window when any remaining inventory would be snapped up by other DVC members. It really comes down to when you want to go, which resort and which room type (size and booking category). Some rooms are much harder to get than others.
