Hey-
I have about 800 disney rewards for my trip in less than 2 weeks. i am wondering should I go to the disney store and get gift cards before i go to make it easier to use.
THOUGHTS PLEASE:confused3:confused3:teacher:

The only way I see that making it easier to use is if you are worried about losing a card with that much $$ on it. Otherwise the reward card would be just as easy, if not easier, to use than a gift card and probably not worth the extra step. I want to say that before the receipt might have even told us thr balance of the card when we used it?

I wasn't aware that you could cash in your reward points for gift cards at the Disney store. At this late time, I would wait and go to guest services at MK and have them transfer the rewards onto a card there. Once you receive the card you do have to call and activate it. A friend of mine always waits until she gets to the park to do this and just uses her cell phone to activate the card.

Heres another thought for you..... Go to the pin trading location in Downtown Disney. You can use your Disney Visa rewards card there to buy $50 disney gift cards. Why?? Because EACH specially marked $50 Disney gift card comes with a Disney pin. You could get 16 pins for pin trading without spending a dime, just have to spend the time to get yourself there. Yes, thats what I did last month. :cool1: There's also a 'guest services' place about a 30 second walk from the pin trading location, if you need to get your rewards card while you are at Disney.

Like a previous poster said, unless you want to divide up the $800 onto different cards, I don't think there's any reason to get gift cards with it. The Disney Rewards from Visa are on a card (that looks just like a gift card) and can be used almost anywhere in Disney World. I think there's some protection too, because if you notice it missing you can call Chase and they will cancel the rewards card and issue you a new one.

that's a great tip! I have a bunch of pins for trading but I never thought of this. I only have $280 to cash in but that's 5 pins!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the great tip Phred52!!!
This is one more reason why I love the Dis!!!

I WOULD NOT buy gift cards with them. Can you use the Gift Cards like cash for anything, or only Disney Store stuff? If you lose the rewards card, call chase. If you lose a bunch of gift cards?? And 1 is way easier to carry too. You can put it on the room, so anything you sign to the room just comes off the rewards card. I can't imagine why you would not use it as it was intended.

I would leave them on the rewards card.

Unless the card will expire (like mine will) before you go to Disney. I am hoping to purchase Disney Dollars with mine so they will be good forever. The issue is that I have to drive 2 hours to get to the nearest Disney Store. :sad2:

And I would call before you do that 2 hour drive. Technically you cannot buy disney dollars with the Rewards card....but some CMs will do it.

Thanks for the info. We will be making the trip anyhow, but it helps to know in advance that they might not let me convert to Disney Dollars. It will be close to Christmas, so if I get shut out I will probably just buy gifts on Disney Shopping for my nieces and nephews. Always gotta have a "Plan B"! :)

I know this is an old thread, new and related question..... I have disney rewards dollars can i buy disney gift cards at the disney store with that money? Just since they never expire and our next disney trip is far away.... thanks!

If you are staying onsite, when you check in and they ask for a credit card for room charging privileges , give them the rewards card. That way you have an $800 room credit and can use your KTTWC to pay for anything you like while in the parks. That is what we do. Works like a charm:thumbsup2

I've used my rewards card several times to buy gift cards online. Disneygiftcard.com even has free shipping. You always have to include your credit card in the purchase but they only charge it if you didn't have enough rewards on your card. I love buying them at that site also because they have tons of cool cards :)

this is what we do too - very, very easy!
