Use of black light ink

I never had my hand stamped on my last trip to WDW so forgive me if this question is not valid. The trip BEFORE that (around 1993 or earlier), I left the park to go eat out (since they charge so much for food). They stamped my hand. It was obviously the type of ink that shows up under a black light. Why do they use this? I see no reason for this kind of ink to be used. It's possible to scan it with a black light and copy the image and then, order black light ink off the Net. If it's for anti-fraud protection then how does it protect against scammers? Just have them keep their ticket stub or make them submit a passport or driver's license number upon return later in the day.

Now that they use the biometric finger scans, they don't stamp hands any more. So it is sort of a moot point

But if I recall the last time we were stamped back whenever...
It seemed to me that different parks used different stamps on different days. So even if you could forge your own stamps (which is what I think you're getting at?) you wouldn't know ahead of time which one was being used at a given park on a given day.

Just seems like a lot of trouble to go through...

Back then you were supposed to have both your ticket and the hand stamp.

Often, or I would venture to guess usually, the stamp was smudged enough or overstamped during a second park exit so it was illegible and all the CM could do was verify that it was done.

I do not suppose there were problems with hand stamps washing off at a water park since you were supposed to get your hand stamped (again) there when exiting.
